in 1968, after brown, i remember 1968, 14 years after brown. i remember on the left, when the first white girl entered our school. i was in fifth grade. 14 years after brown. later that same year, after the assassination of dr. king, in baltimore, riots broke out. my mom and dad learned that the school boundary lines had changed, which would force me to go to one of the more dangerous schools in the city. that was enough for my parents to get motivated to pull together the resources, and move us 30 minutes outside the city of baltimore. on the right, you see the picture of my class in baltimore county. it looks a little different than the one on the left. i remember my first day of school in the county. ur blacks of about fo in fifth grade. we had shiny floors, individual desks, and new books. there were no more than two black students in each class. everyone was friendly, but i have to tell you, i felt like a fish out of water. my mother was 82. she grew up in baltimore after moving from north carolina. at 82, she still has regular contact wit
