i think bruce braley will win. we have excellent candidates around this country. common sense, feet on the ground candidates. a lot of them are going to win. we will surprise some people with how many seats we win. having said that, i think this president did what the american people wanted. i think they saw a leader looking at a security challenge and saying, we will confront it, and we will defeat it. i think they have seen a president who has led us over the last five and a half years from an economy that is the worst that almost every american has seen in their lifetime. you have to be 90 years old or older to have seen a worst economy -- worse economy than president obama inherited. we build up this economy. the last 50 plus months we have had a growing economy. we have averaged in the last year over 200,000 jobs created per month. the stock market has almost tripled in terms of value. much of our economy is doing well. we have not passed the kind of jobs legislation that will make sure that those who have not been lifted up by the growth in our economy, the

polls showing republican johnny ernst and democrat bruce braley virtually in a dead heat. what are you hearing on the ground? is tom harkin's seat. he is retiring after 40 years as a federal lawmaker, and his seat is in jeopardy now. this race could not be any closer. it is completely tied up right now, which i don't think the democrats expected. six months ago, if you had said, will we get a republican nominee in this race who could possibly harkin's designated protÉge, i do not think any democrats would think that was possible. you had this no-name republican come in, and caught fire and surged up in the polls. now, there is no way anyone can tell you who is going to win. this raises extremely close. people here are hoping that hillary clinton can say bruce's name enough times to get people fired up about him. >> a governor's race as well. what do you expect in those contests? >> we have a des moines area u.s. house race that could switch from republican hands into democratic hands. i expect hillary clinton will be mentioning that democratic candidate, stacy apple, a for

the republican has been doing very well and pulled ahead of bruce braley, the democratic congressman. races where there surprisingly strong candidates. >> i'm not surprised because this is a second term mid-term with the president that normally no matter who or which party is in charge, the president's party loses 24, 26 seats. what is more surprising is that it's likely that the republicans aren't going to do nearly as well as that historically. democrats are going to have a good election day 35 days from now. the contrast between the two parties and the choice that voters are going to make will really be the result of them asking the questions who has my back. they see the tea parties strangling them and suing the president for doing his job when the republicans won't do theirs. trying to take away people's health care and trying to ship dreamers back to the countries of origin four different times and democrats focussed on creating jobs and getting the economy turned around and equal pay for equal work for women and increasing the minimum wage. those are the bread and butter issues
