flores is in the newsroom right now. and the federal government is taking the lead in the investigation, bryan. >>> that's right.derstand the crash is not affecting flights as we speak at birmingham's international airport. about 140 residents had their power cut up as crews fought flames from the wreckage as a precaution. the ntsb is expected to arrive shortly. they say it's still early on in the investigation. u.p.s. flight 1351 was on its way from louisville to alabama when it crashed. the ntsb said it's an airbus a- 300 series cargo plane. they say the crash happened as the plane was on approach towards birmingham- shuttlesworth. officials say the pilot and copilot were killed at the scene. it's believed they were the only passengers on board the plane. at this point, it doesn't appear any homes were affected and no other injuries were reported on the ground. but the mayor of birmingham says debris is spread all over the place. >> we don't know why it crashed. it left a pretty long debris field and broke up into several part parts with the -- parts with the fuselage and the wings separated. >> several reside
