this is where bryan christopher kohberger is being held. according to the docket, it is said a motion to set bail was denied by a judge. so this is a no bail, obvious situation, but the arrest as i said, was at 1:30 this morning by the pennsylvania state police, and if you are wondering, well, how did this idaho suspect come to be in pennsylvania, it's fascinating because according to a source, they tell cnn that the fbi out of philadelphia were surveilling him for four days right here in very rural pennsylvania. at the very same time in idaho, the moscow police, idaho state police, and the fbi were putting everything together that they had to find probable cause for a judge to sign off on an arrest warrant. that happened. when that happened, pennsylvania state were surveilling him the whole time. they moved in, and they arrested him. now as far as the criminal complaint, he is being held according to the complaint being declared a fugitive of justice, and that is allowing them because a judge in pennsylvania doesn't have authority to hold

bryan kohberger was arrested in pennsylvania and charged with four counts of first-degree murder in thecnn's jean cazares jones us from pennsylvania where that arrest was made. this is important for a number of different reasons. why? >> reporter: well, we just spoke and got off the phone with jason la bar, the chief public defender, who will be and is representing the defendant in this case, and he said that he has spoken with his client. he actually came to visit him right here at the correctional facility yesterday and he will be waiving extradition to expedite his trip back to idaho. so this is an answer that we have been wondering about because it is in his hands, kohberger's hands, what will happen in all of this. we got some more information. he also said that kohberger arrived here in northeastern pennsylvania, his home, on december 17th. and he has been here since then. he is now in isolation in the correctional facility, which is standard when you have a high-to profile case like this. he originally was on suicide watch, which is standard with this facility. he is not anymore.

we have learned more about this suspect. 28-year-old bryan kohberger. he was getting a ph.d.y. he had a fascination with crime. while the authorities won't detail about anything of a motive, what does what we're learning about him tell you about a possible motivation for the murders? >> i wasn't surprised at all to find out he was studying criminology and his fellow students said he was interested in forensic psychology. we have seen with killers of this nature and serial killers. we don't know if he would have committed this crime again or in the past. they can be groupies of criminology. doing case study after case study and wanting to become experts. helps fellow students in the ph.d. program said he was awkward and he would be quiet and give them long stares. the biggest thing is he wanted to be an expert on everything. he would overexplain everything. he wanted to be super academic. they turned to class after these murders happened and he was extremely isolated and perhaps manic. >> casey, we know investigators were pouring through 20,000 tips. keeping the details of the
