this is all happening at the bryce jordan center in state college. and that's where "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live tonight. chad as you know firsthand because you've been there before, this is the start of an extraordinary weekend at penn state. >> reporter: yes jim this really is a special event and it has been an honor to cover over the past several years. this place is rocking. just moments ago, 700 dancers got up on their feet and they will begin a 46 hour dance marathon. it won't end until sunday at 4:00 p.m. this place is packed, capacity here at the bryce jordan center, roughly 15,000. most of these people are here to support the dancers but the real inspiration is the kids. as you know, jim the slogan is ftk, for the kids and just moments ago i spoke with some local dancers. >> i think us dancing means all of my efforts over the last four years are culminating and my senior year i have been able to give back through fundraisers and things like that in the past. this is the ultimate way i can give back to these families and wonde

: chris, the the dancing did just start behind me at bryce jordan center. let's show you commotion. it is in the on the floor because it ties loud to hear ourselves think but we are in one of the support tunnels here. you can see the the the commotion. there are thousands of people getting ready to start this two day event a penn state tradition. we have video to show you. we took on the floor before the the event officially got started not long ago. preparation for this event have basically been underway since last years thon ended. the entire thing is student run with 15 different committees all working together to put all of the proceed from the entering go to fighting pediatric cancer. the fund raised are nothing short of impressive. last year alone organizers say they have raised over 13 million. like any good charity, they hope to raise even more this year. thousands of hours of work have gone into planning all this but a few students we spoke to said simply put it is all worth it. >> you know, we are proud of ourselves but we also necessity what we'r

outside that is the story but in fact what is going on inside that facility right here the the bryce jordan center. let's show video that we took earlier when we were inside taking a look at the preparation. the students organizing all this here at penn state have been inside that building since the we hours of this morning finalizing preparations for an event that will run all weekend long. starting at 6:00 o'clock about 700 dancers will take to the floor. they will all sit down. when organizers yell go they will all stand up and they won't sit back down for another 46 hours. all of this is just a culmination of the year long annual effort to raise machine toy combat pediatric cancer with last years event raising over 13 million-dollar thanks to the work of thousands of volunteers. it is truly quite the under taking for the the entirely student run, organization something we have talk with them about a short time ago. >> speaking of a lot of work and long hours, you know as the captain, i wouldn't trade a minute of it. >> all of the planning, we have been working, countless hours, especial
