along came senator weiner who called us and said i want to do something in buchanan mall. he knows the park system in and out and has delivered $5 million to this project. we have a big grant pending that we are supposed to hear from any day to be another $5 million. we have another grant that is pending which will be 3.5 to $4 million. we have two other sources of funding mapped out. if they come to pass we have the $25 million to make this vision a reality. i want to thank everybody, but today is really acknowledging and celebrating this community but the elected leaders who made it happen. i will turn it over to our park champion and chief, mayor breed. >> mayor breed: thank you for being here today. it is wonderful to be here to celebrate this incredible milestone. there is a lot of history that goes into what we are doing here. in fact when i served as executive director of this building african-american art and culture complex. myself and so many community members. we had a vision for what we knew this space could be. vendors, people who saw the things and products t

there is a lot of investment at state level and the city level in renovations at the buchanan mall and pedestrian safety issues are really important, particularly with some of the families and seniors using the mall. so, the flashing beacons have been described. i just really want to thank t.a. and m.t.a. for prioritizing the western addition community-based transportation plan, which, you know, so much work went into and there was so much outreach in the community. we want to particularly note the community-based operations in the western addition, particularly nclf and citizen stone, who continue to elevate these projects and conduct a lot of outreach and push for safety improvements within the western addition transportation plan. and then the last one mentioned, this one is very significant in district 5. it's sort of buried in the attachments, but i wanted to name it as one of the vision zero quick-build projects that i think is going to make a huge difference and that is the creation on oak street of a quick-build protected bike lane, designing that and implementing that. this is

and buchanan street mall, to improve the two blocks between eddie street and golden gate avenue, including plaza and memory walk highlighting the history of the neighborhood. the awards are funded by 153 million approved by the state legislature in the 21-22 state budget and 395 million from the california drought water parks climate for all act of 2018. president buell mentioned the awards. it was a great ceremony and the only thing i would add is to thank ashley summers for all of her great work organizing the event and making it as successful as it was despite covid and the rain, it was still a very, very special afternoon. thank you ashley. tomorrow, friday december 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., please join us for the marina yacht harbor annual celebration. we are not supposed to get rain. it is supposed to be clear and crisp. this year's event includes a visit from santa and live music and the bay area's largest lit boat parade starting at 6:00 p.m. it is fun and if you are inspired please bring a new unwrapped toy to support the san francisco fire department's toy drive. winter lights
