we're standing right near where bucky dents home run disappeared in the 1978 playoff. obviously right next to the foul pole that carlton fisk's home run hit in the 1975 world series. two great memories. this place as john updike dubbed it in the famous "new yorker" magazine piece, the lyric little band box. remains pretty much the same, with a quarter of a billion dollars worth of renovations that the current ownership group has performed, as it did 100 years ago. i can tell you willie, having been here 100 years ago on opening day, it's much better weather today than it was then. >> the highlanders had a good day that day. >> they were a good team, terrible uniforms, but a good team. but the unique thing about fenway park, i think not only to me, who has spent a lot of time here, but to people who come here occasionally or perhaps even only once is it's a place where memory marries myth. you can sit here and be, you know, with your family, you take your kids here and they have a permanent recollection of coming to a ball game. it's so small. so close. that you can see
