i appreciate the upper to appear before you today to discuss the operation of the federal bureau of prisons. to serve asan honor the agency's director and be a part of all the poor does for our nation. i want to thank the committee for the support of our bureau. our mission is challenging, protecting the safety of the public our staff and inmates , while also providing inmates with skills needed to successfully return to our communities. i also wish to thank the inspector general and his staff for the audit of the bureau's management of female inmates. we agree with the recommendations and we are implementing changes to address them. the bureau recognizes that females require a dedicated focus. to address this, we are enhancing our emphasis on programming for female inmates that is both trauma informed and tailored to their unique needs. it is a particular honor to speak on behalf of the nearly 37,000 bureau staff. corrections professionals who carry out our law enforcement mission. these dedicated public servants are on the job 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it's through their hard wor
