one area of concern is with automobile burglaries and thefts. we have noticed a trend across the city where we are seeing one more auto theft on average across the city at approximately 5 more automobile burglaries. that is a concern for us. efforts have been going into the reduction of violent crime and that has been productive. a homicide comparison, 19 versus 12. that is a major concern as well. arrests are up this year to date by 2%, and the number of shootings flags from last year, which is good, and the number has decreased since the last time i spoke to you. that is an area of concern for us. and that is all i have on the crime statistics. commissioner dejesus: and the other presentation? i am sorry, there are people who want to ask questions? commissioner slaughter: i wonder, since the family has been here, if he could report briefly on the clearance rates for homicide as. because having been a homicide prosecutor, it tells you a lot what the department is doing to solve this crime. i think the public would like to know, if he could do t

we begin with breaking news out of hayward where police are chasing after burglary suspects. officers have cordoned off a neighborhood east of industrial boulevard and north of tennyson road in southwest hayward. they are searching around darrwin street and port smith avenue -- port smith avenue. this is video from newschopper2. witnesses say the suspects were running through backyards and knocking on doors. police believe they could be inside one of the homes. the police officer involved in the crash was not hurt. also just moments ago, we got word that a second lane is now open on westbound interstate 80 in richmond. that's where a truck crash has been tying up traffic for an hour and a half. the crash happened around 10:30 at the richmond parkway, a big rig carrying oxygen tanks collided with a passenger vehicle. the truck caught fire but the chp says none of the tanks ruptured. and no one was injured. but the two left lanes are still blocked. this is westbound on 80 in richmond. and it could be 2:30 before things get back to normal. >>> there's heightened concern at berke

police also arrested a 31-year- old man on burglary charges. >>> in the east bay sheriffs deputies are searching for an inmate who was released from the jail in dublin. the sheriff's department says jail officials realize 21-year- old ishmael cesda was gone when they did a headcount last night for he had been to court yesterday and returned about 6:00. it suspected he escaped shortly there after by walking through an area of the jail where inmates are released. cesda was in custody on stolen vehicle and pursue charges. >>> concerns about a missing teenager cause schools to be locked down. they say it was a precautionary measure. his father says a handgun and ammunition were discovered missing this morning after the boy ran away. >>> tonight fbi agents are combing through mounds of evidence following a predawn raid at to the area car clubs to the fbi is not say what prompted the raids -- is not saying what prompted the raids. >> the next thing i know, several of them come in with machine guns, guns drawn on us. they told us to put our hands on the table. >> those at the club say they we

victims of lesser crimes like burglaries would remain victims. in south dakota, the bill was proposed that would make it legal to murder a doctor who basically provided a portion care. it would make it legal to kill the doctor. we have another bill, the international violence against women act, a sister bill to that which is the domestic bill. it creates a comprehensive program to address the violence and places women at the center of u.s. foreign policy for the first time in history. it supports measures to prevent violence,. text survivors, and brings perpetrators to justice. we have one of the three lead it drafters of this legislation. the bill was signed by the senate foreign relations committee and has a long way to go for passage. when you think about it, besides the incredible trauma violence is inflicting on our globe, the cost of global violence is huge. the cost of just partner violence, $6 billion per year. canada, $1 billion per year. the united kingdom, $23 billion per year. that is only one aspect. imagine if we took the time to re

. >> fremont passengers should be on alert, burglaries have prompted officers to warn you about what you leave inside your car. jay hernandez has more from the train depo infaremont. good morning. >> reporter: it appears these dollars, coins, whatever the commuters left in their parked car and specifically in this parking lot right here, fremont police say a thief or thieves broke into about 40 cars. we can show you video of some of those cars yesterday. the calls came pouring into the fremont police department yesterday morning and by the end of the morning, officers realized the target was whatever was left inside of the cars. a camera captured the glass from the broken window still in the parking lot and a few of the cars broken into and left in the lot. the centerville train depo and amtrak ace trains come through the station and the ace train from stockton to san jose and the police department is warning anyone that parks in this lot or any other to do the obvious, put your valuables out of sight and that includes the change in your cup holder. >>> overnight a crash on highway 4

in the part one property crimes in burglary, we have a 6% decrease. 354 down to 331. auto theft, we are down. reform vehicles were down 23%. arson, 171% increase. as explained by the fact that in december, the arson rate was low, and now we are back to 21 per month, more of these -- most of these are arson of vehicles. they have been reported stolen and have been found to be burnt. in -- last, personal theft, we went from 1061 to 850, a decrease of 20%. our violent crime numbers are down 3%. property crime numbers are down 16%. supervisor mirkarimi: so -- i'm happy to see the reductions, as anybody would be. the month of january, i think he would ask many, felt like a troubling and tough month with regard to violent crime. you just said it has been down. in my area and other areas, we have seen quite an uptick. maybe you can speak to that. >> i understand there's a very serious uptick in homicides. we had 11 this past month as compared to five last year at this time. however, i can say that of the 11 homicides, only one that we know of has been gang-related. all the o
