the former suffolk police chief james burk in handcuffs. the fbi arrested the 51-year- old veteran cop this morning. >> suffolk police chief james burk finds himself on the opposite end of the laws he was sworn to uphold. >> burk was with the suffolk police department three decades. he resigned in october. prosecutors say in 2012 burk assaulted christopher lobe. he had stolen burk's gun belt and other items from his department vehicle parked in the driveway. lobe was arrested and brought to the 4th precinct where prosecutors say burk repeatedly punched and slapped lobe while handcuffed. prosecutors say burk then aware of the assault to lie to federal investigators. >> the investigation into the defendant burk's assault of lo b egan 2 1/2 years ago. even knowing it was conducted by this office along with the fbi, burk's efforts to conceal the assault and the fbi investigation of those allegations continued in earnest. >> to the extent these things happened, we don't believe the government can show mr. burk is a danger on an ongoing basis and

burke resigned in october. sources familiar with the case tell news 4 that burke is expected to face civil rights charges in connection with the 2012 arrest of christopher loeb. he was charg with breaking into burke's department-issued suv. loeb eventually pled guilty to stealing ammunition and a duffel bag belonging to burke. the bag contained, according to loeb, pornography. loeb says he was beaten by burke and more than a dozen police officers at his home in smithtown and also at a police station following his arrest. and in recent weeks, darlene, there have also been unexpected resignations as well. the suffolk county police commissioner, also the chief of detectives. county police officials might face charges in connection with this case as well. back to you, darlene. >> all right. thanks so much, kat. >>> happening right now, police are trying to track down a suspect they have identified now in a brooklyn rape. they say they're looking for 31-year-old raji wilson. this is a photo from a prior arrest. poli
