what exactly is a micro burst? it's a little different from a tornado in that first of all, it's not rotating. these storms tonight, and there were multiple micro bursts. it's from cold air descending from the storm. it comes down like a brick. you'll definitely see it descending and also kind of heating, spinning up as it continues to hit the ground and roll on down. as it does that, those winds can compress and really speed up. we know we had winds gusting over 60 miles an hour in the vicinity of bladensburg, silver spring, national arboretum. in the micro burst, winds can get to 80 miles per hour or more. that's why we saw all that very significant damage in bladensburg and also what happened up in frederic. and there was another micro burst likely in the hartford county area. they also look at the damage caused by the micro burst and it sort of fans out, taking down everything in its path, very strong. what you don't get is the rotation that you would see with a thunderstorm. but you get incredibly significant
