. -- youth radio and the training program we have begun at burton high. every time i come to talk to you, i say, what are you doing in the educational mission? i believe that at our station, we play a special role. i am excited that now we are in the position to have an ongoing training project for students burton high. in december, our first stephen l. -- who has worked on the air, a junior, had one of her news commentaries on our station, we are expanding that partnership step by step in partnership with youth radio. to me, that is very exciting, because i think that what makes her community radio important and valuable is that it is open to many voices from the community and finds ways to leverage the relationships it has to make something great that many people want to listen to. that is what i think we're starting to build at burton and the partnership with euphoria. -- with youth radio. the one that i cannot put on paper, but if any of you want to come and visit the station, or at a pledge drive if you like to answer the phones, is just how live the

in the classrooms working with young people, bringing resources to them, as we are now doing in burton high- school with a program we created for students having difficulty making a transition. we are seeing a truant students improve their attendance. this is meaningful for crime rates, but more importantly, these numbers are meaningful to the young person, their family, and our community. together with the school district and common sense media, we are helping young people understand what it means to be good citizens, informing them of the dangers of cyber bullying, and working with this new medium. this program will help young people to stay engaged in their education and away from our jails and prisons. also, i recognize we must continue to engage our community, and often, come to the hall of justice. every victim of a crime should be helped. to be sure that they are held, we have moved our offices into the community. people can now meet with us in chinatown, the mission, and bayview. by the end of this year, they will be able to do so in any other part of the city. to a woman struggling

we are currently concentrating at phil and sally burton, martin luther king, and marshall high school. we are also working with mission and some of the schools in the mission. we are working in the west corridor, which covers washington, presidio, and some of the school's out there, which also covers wallenberg and some of the junior high schools in the area. we also work with galileo marina, covering the northeast part of the city. we also worked at the 1 08, which is the only line that provides transportation to treasure island. treasure island has a community with a number of kids and families that commutes back and forth to school, and also the job corps, which holds 600 or 700 people. currently, i think they are close to 600. and 75 students from all across the country. they are housed there. they come off the island to attend school, and also have trade schools available to them at treasure island sites. we have noticed an increase in problems with regards to electronic devices. we are trying to mount a campaign to work closely with high schools and junior high schools because w
