, and recent reports say it has not gotten better but has got worse for the city. since december 14, we know first and foremost the deal changed, but i think just importantly, the cost for the infrastructure fixes as well as the cost to the city for the event have skyrocketed. fundraising, unfortunately, is not where we had hoped it would be, but we want to thank the america's cup organizing committee for all of your efforts, and we also know that the attendance assumptions have been brought down, and we have witnessed what happened in san diego and have some concern. i want to thank our budget analyst, mr. rose, with your report, and i know we will hear an update on it. i just want to state at the outset, given what we know now, i somewhat -- i support pretty much what is in the report and more. there are other issues we have to figure out, but as quickly as possible, hopefully over the next week, we can resolve these issues. let me just quickly talk about a couple of them. first of all, pier 29. i cannot support something that includes that. i just wanted to say

reflection of not only their interest in making sure they continue to find talent that exists in the city, butests as well as our i.t. companies, continue to do everything we can to make sure they feel comfortable and are creating jobs. every time you hear about a major company like river bed making a decision like this that is very significant, this is their headquarters, but it is their global headquarters. to suggest a 10-year lease is important. they have over 500 people working today. this additional new space than they have signed a 10-year lease for has 160,000 square feet that will allow riverbed to grow and potentially add over 650 additional jobs on top of their 500. i.t. work is growing in the city. certainly, we want it to grow. we have a lot of i.t. solutions to be had. riverbed's technology is important, allows technologies to have i.t. management's -- companies to have a i.t. management from the date of filing to storage, all those wonderful things that technology people will have a much better way to explain and i do. i do suggest to you that this is, yet again, another example

city. we should have excellent, world- class tax and service anyway, but the fact that we are endeavoring to be a transit first city where people do not feel the need to or desire to use or own their own cars, we need to have the transit, and cycling and walking rethink can cover a significant number of trips in san francisco, but there will always be a place for an automobile, times where the other modes of transportation will not meet the needs, and taxing services is one of the main ways we can fill that gap, so while there are many both perhaps inside and outside the mta that might prefer that taxing services were not brought into the mta a few years back, i think it makes all of the sense in the world that it is there because it is absolutely part of realizing transit first, and it completes this as a full- service transportation agency, so as supervisor wiener said, we are an approved budget we are working on improving the tax and service and improving this in san francisco. it is extremely complex. there are often diverging viewpoints, and you may hear some of them today in terms of w
