buttigieg: of course.s is day one of a process that we know will go through a lot with congress. i have been on the phone with democrats and republicans all day as well as a lot of other stakeholders. we know that natural give and take it is only going to make this a stronger plan. the president sent out a clear vision. he is insisting on going big. i thing it is a great beginning for not just the kind of infrastructure that used to be a punchline in washington, but an infrastructure season that will give us a better infrastructure future. judy: finally, mr. secretary, president biden spoke about wanting bipartisan support but if you end up with no republican votes for this, which we know is possible, how much does that undercut what the administration is trying to do? you ended up with no republican votes on the covid relief bill. sec. buttigieg: the strange thing about the covid relief bill was, it had enormous bipartisan support among the american people, just not here in washington. i believe if there

pete buttigieg and the way the fcc carved up airwaves. is there a need for structural change? that was a headline-grabbing set of fights, whether it was about airwaves or legato, i wanted to get your sense of that. brendan: part of the way we were able to leapfrog global competitors when it comes to 5g is that we freed up a lot of airways. six gigahertz licensed spectrum we cleared up. those were difficult engagements. a lot of prime spectrum is in the hands of federal users. they are reluctant to give it up. we ran engineering analysis and made the right calls, but that resulted in headlines in the telecom industry of disputes between fcc and dod. i am worried there could be backsliding with respect to those initiatives. secretary buttigieg questioned the fcc decision to free up spectrum five on the nine gigahertz band. the fcc should stay clear eyed about spectrum policy and standup to federal entities that have reached the wrong conclusions about the best use of this spectrum. we need to keep moving forward on that band and that will be an early test of the agency. peter: c

as secretary buttigieg said, they are hoping for republican support. they are -- the administration is -- they seem aware that they have the wind at their back with the economy improving and just with the popularity of fixing roads, fixing bridges, things like that. >> infrastructure is very popular. the fact is that there has been competing messages on this. if you look at the recent poll, it shows the majority of americans support many details of the bill. 45% support president biden's proposal. you have 27% against it. you have 28% who don't really know how they stand on it. jeff, how much selling does the white house need to do to sway particularly that 28%? could that sway republicans opposing it? >> it might. that said, you have a lot of public support for the stimulus bill and that didn't end up changing republican votes. i think to the first part of your question, you will see selling, a lot of selling. this white house realizes that's part of how you get bills passed. the president made clear last week that he assigned people in his cabinet to
