that's at bwi marshall. will they get to that? only time will tell. but it's certainly going to be a very, maybe in the top five snowstorms ever for our region. we'll talk about that a little later on. take a look at temps around the area. right now, we're at 31. 31 in ocean city. down there, a little rain mixture. 30, easton, with snow. 35, elkton. temperatures vary. where the temperatures are above freezing, it's not sticking that much. we drop to 30. with a dew point around 31. most areas reporting right around the freezing mark now. that will continue to probably drop to about 29 or 30. huge area of moisture. i mean, the snow from maryland all the way out to the upper plain states as can you see. you can take us sliding, go all the way out to wyoming. to our south, heavy rains. thunderstorms. the energy with this storm is really beginning to explode. what's going to happen is that low is going to get to the carolina coast. and it's going to really become a major nor'easter. bringing gale forced winds to the coast. a lot of beach erosion. high tide

we talked about the 4.9 at bwi, putting us almost smack in the record books again. >> with that added to our season total, we are now 13th place for snowiest snowfall season. we're creeping up that list right now, and this weekend could add to that. i want to show you down to the southwest, the next storm's already taking shape, bringing a lot of rain to texas. that storm will track across the south and then move in our direction. for us, we think it could be a sleet/snow combo in the beginning and southern parts of the region, more of a rain mix. so we could see a little bit of everything at the beginning of the storm then changing over to snow. it could be a significant snowfall accumulation starting friday continuing into saturday. now, as far as the numbers go, i want to show you the timing here with this storm because it is going to creep our way during the day friday, moving in probably during the evening hours, then continuing right through the day on saturday. the details of the storm still a little sketchy, but we'll keep you up to date on this and it looks like a significant

we had almost five inches at bwi marshall last night. belair three inches. we thought a three to five inch range would be accurate. new winter storm watch already up for maryland. more on that in a second. right now 38 degrees at bwi marshall. northwest wind 3 miles per hour. sunshine. temperatures up around 40 degrees. clouds build in later in the day. frederick picked up five inches. again you can see a decent weather day. i want to show you this. our morning lows around 31 at the maryland science center. a lot of 20s across the board. cold enough to have the snow stick overnight. it was a wetter snow consistency that held accumulations down. high temperatures today a big rebound. 48 millersville. these are the weather bug sites. you can see the contrast. low to mid 40s. that is the kind of weather that really gets a lot of snow melting off. it is a good thing. we have more coming. temperatures now have dropped off into the upper 30s. high temperatures today all across the state rebounding sharply into the low 40s. i do think one similarity we'll get more

right now we have light to moderate snow at bwi marshall through annapolis. we have snow in frederick and heavy snow reported back toward hagerstown. this will intensify as it moves west to east. again, all though i done see any surface reports at the top of the hour for sleet on delmarva we think the eastern shore may be getting pelted by light sleet. this is impressive. we were just looking at this. you can see the storm west from east. we bring in the snow. it continues overnight tonight mixing in with snow. winter mix toward the delmarva area. through the day tomorrow we all pick up snow. then the wind intensifies. as the low moves offshore if you look to the right of the screen you can see a donut hole. that's an indication of a powerful low pressure area. then you can see a secondary center of that low back forming a little closer to new jersey. that will mean a tremendous amount of wind. tomorrow night that's even as the snow wraps up. this is going to be a monster storm that we have to deal with. you don't see that show up on the model like that all t

it's possible, i'm not sure if bwi might see that. north and west, probably pretty good chance. 8 to 16. 4 to 8, even from louis down to southern virginia. right along the beaches. maybe less than four inches. but that's right along the immediate beaches. take a look at temperatures around the region. as you just mentioned, 37, bel air. 36, annapolis. big, big storm. we're talking many, many hours of moisture. this is all rain. snow across kansas, nebraska. that's all heading off to the east/northeast. what we're looking at is this big bulk of moisture heading into the colder air. we're talking 12 to 16 hours of snow. probably heavy. one to two inches, maybe three inches an hour. already showing up here in the mountains in north carolina, southwest virginia, some snow. it's getting a little quicker. i think it may be as early as 8:00, 10:00 in the morning. we'll keep watching that. what we do know is once the storm moves off the coast, later saturday, things will begin to clear out. windy. snow blowing and drifting all over the place.

local airports including bwi marshall have remained open. they are very few flights going in and out. airlines have closed down operations. there are a few flights. don't leave your home unless you call and confirm that your flight is still scheduled. very few flights will go out the rest of the evening. most flights have been canceled for tomorrow. we want to make sure folks don't go out on the road unnecessarily. with regard to transit activities. bart commuter trains and bus worked well through the afternoon. as the traffic peak was in the afternoon that's the peak we saw with regard to transit. hopefully most those folks have arrived home safely. we'll continue to maintain service in the washington region on rail. until the snow exceeds six to eight inches. light rail metro in baltimore. we will continue our normal operations. we will have the customer service centers open all weekend. we hope to keep operations running as long as we can. with regard to the bus service in the city the city will help us keep major roadways clear. again yo

currently for the season, 35.6 inches at bwi. ranks us number 14 since records were kept in 1883. a lot of talk about how much snow we get. well, this is going to be historic for a couple of reasons. number one, the first time on record that we wind up with a storm, two storms in one season over a foot of snow. if we get 10 inches, the new ranking would be number 7 of snow of all time. if we get 15, it will rank us at number 5. the big wallop, 22.5 inches. if we get that, this would rank the second all-time snowiest winter on record. number one and two were set in the last 15 years. we've had a pattern here of really heavy winters. jamie, you war talking about iowa with severe weather all ganging up here on the east. the problem is when it begins between 10:00 and 2:00, it comes down heavy within the next couple of hours. we will mix in some sleet to cut down on the snowfall totals. we'll tell you how much we do expect coming up in a moment. >>> now what's happening with the roads with kim brown? >> reporter: traffic's flowing fr
