c-span: in houston. guess code in houston and met with the head of head and neck surgery and he said i will take you there tomorrow morning. we will do this operation. i said well i sure appreciate that doctor but you see i have the speech tomorrow evening in new jersey but i promise to do. he said you don't understand. he said, i said it has to come out. so i said okay. i understood. they took out the cancer and some adjacent lands just to make sure it had not spread and a salivary gland which tends to make my mouth still a little dry but it's getting better. that's why keep sipping the water. and then after that i will underwent radiation treatment. if i had still been speaker when that happened i would have put it off. i would not have found time, would not have made an opportunity to have a look at until maybe it was too late. so things do happen for the best. c-span: did you have any therapy after you have the cancer? >> guest: radiation therapy yes. exercises at the time and trying to express words

we met at c-span first and went on a tour with someone from c-span, and walked around the capital. that was really awesome. i think i have been there before on some other trips to washington but there is so much you can learn from there. i definitely recommend that if anybody comes to d.c., they should stop by and do a tour inside the congress building. you really get a sense of american pride when you go in there. it is so established, so beautiful, and you get to see democracy where it is. host: you will finish of the day today by going back to the capitol complex. what is the end of the day like? katie: for the remainder of the day, we will go back to the capital to meet mitch mcconnell, the majority senate leader, which will be amazing. that makes me feel like -- as kentuckians, there are 50 states but we can come together to becoming special and one person. we are ecstatic for that. after that, we will go back to the hotel and get ready to fly out back to lexington. host: a busy busy 24 hours. what do you plan to say the mitch mcconnell? michael: i think am for supporting us.

how many decided to enter the contest for c-span? anna: i think about half of them. not all of them finished on the due date. about half ended up enteruing. michael: when we learned about the assignment, i was not very enthusiastic about it. it was like, great, another assignment. once i learned more about it, as we learn more about it, we got more interested in it. we decided to take it seriously. anna, me, and katie were -- we had these skills and decided to come together because each of us could contribute a huge hard to the video. -- huge part to the video. that would make like a tri-force -- as one of our classmates called us, but try force of the class -- and we combine and be the video. host: if you were the technical part, what were the two bills that you had? katie: i was the researcher which means i basically looked all these sources, gather the information that was necessary to be the substance of our video. anna was the reporter. anna: i talked to the interviewees, did the camera shots, and went with michael through the videography -- like use this shot,
