[inaudible conversations]s associate press and others reporting today that senators on capitol hill received a closed-door hearing taking a look at the issue of artificial intelligence. this as a continue to investigate ai and its impact. join us to talk about that hearing and related topics is tate ryan-mosley, m.i.t. technology review, senior tech policy reporter thanks for getting a short time. >> guest: thanks so much for having me from a basic question bullet start with that. what is artificial intelligence? >> guest: it's a good one. it's a super broad term and it covers a lot of different types of computer science techniques but really it refers to machines i can learn, reason, and act for themselves, as my previous colleague to find it. lately what we've been hearing a lot about is generative ai. and that's a a type of ai that uses a lot of data about words and language to basically predict strings of words and how they fit together in the future. that's why we've been hearing a lot about ai lately with
