c.r. omnibus is passed. is there concern we could be going back down that road that we did last fall, if the president moves this ahead of time, and that really hurts the c.r.? >> let me make sure my colleagues have the opportunity to say things. i would say this. today, tomorrow, next week we could dispose of the need for the president to take any type of executive action on immigration if the house of representatives would unstick its gears and let us vote in the house as we are supposed to be improving our laws. for more than a year and a half, about a year and a half, the house has had sitting in its chamber a bill that was a bipartisan bill passed by 60 -- 68 votes that would fix the broken immigration system. my sense is the president would like to see the house republican leadership act, whether on the senate bill or anything else, but to see us do something. short of that, i think the president is prepared to do what he can using his executive authority to prioritize what is -- how we go out there and

omnibus would be the preferable alternative. the problem is the gentleman well knows with the c.r., it gives a very limited ability of agencies, particularly department of defense, at a critical time to plan as they would like. general dempsey and others have mentioned that. so i'm hopeful that we'll be able to work together to accomplish that objective. the other -- there were three others. there's no mention of a tax extenders bill. as the gentleman knows, the senate is addressing that. does the gentleman have any idea, again given the fact that we have essentially three weeks left to go and a few days and cooperation's going to be essential if we get our work done, on where we're going on tax extenders? i'll yield to my friend. mr. mccarthy: i thank the gentleman for yielding. i had just met with our chairman of ways and means and he's been working in the other house and nothing has been finalized yet. as you know, we had passed many of those bills permanently out of this house. negotiations are still going on with the senate. but it's our intention to have that done before the end of the year as well. mr. hoyer: given that intention ,
