lewis -- c.s. lewise rather famously that we know what a crooked line is, because we know what a straight line looks like. i think for those of us who are followers of jesus, we know what the commands of jesus are and we understand how we are to conduct ourselves as his followers and how we are to engage the world around us. when we see the church straying from that, i think we have an obligation and responsibility, lovingly but firmly, the call that out and speak that truth to power. that's all i try to do here. mind you, i am as flawed and imperfect as any of the people i write about in the book. in fact, more so. i am not infallible. i know i have made my mistakes, certainly even in the pages of this book. i hope nonetheless god can use me as a vehicle to help do exactly what some of these other folks are trying to do in these other books you are describing, which is ultimately to turn our eyes back to jesus and away from some of these ephemeral distractions of this world that have become idols to us.
