so technology saves lives. >> bill cairns, thank you again. 140-mile-an-hour sustained winds. let's go to katie beck in lake charles, louisiana. katie, what bill was telling us is it may get calm because the eye is passing by you. is that what you're seeing? >> reporter: exactly what bill described, sort of on the backside, not experiencing the rain any more, but the wind is powerful. not quite what it was an hour ago, but i am keeping an eye out behind me, because we have debris flying everywhere. this is actually a piece of the building from the casino where we're staying that has been flying around. but there are all kinds of structures, trees, signage, things that have been blowing around this parking lot, making noise over the past hour or so. so i am keeping an eye on things as i hear things crash and sheer behind me. in terms of the storm surge, we were expecting to see more flooding here in lake charles. the eye making that slight shift. again, daylight will tell us a different story. some of those low-lying areas closer to the water h
