pete: brian trasher, united "cajun navy" spokesman. thank you. to rick reichmuth who is live in mayfield, kentucky. his shot is up this morning. rick, glad to have you with us, what is going on, the sun is not up but you're taking more of this in? rick: we're about another hour or so from the sun coming up. we'll start getting light in half hour or so. we want to pop up. we got a picture to show what this building was before this tornado came through. it is the first presbyterian church. a big beautiful church right here in downtown mayfield, obviously now reduced to this pile here of rubble. walking around trying to take it all in. the one of the things always happens with the tornadoes, your brain can't fully grasp what you're looking at. you have to kind of dig into and look. right here you see this girl's bicycle here mangled up in the middle all of this pile. all of this didn't end up like this in the tornado. this right here on the street would have been fully covered. they got it fully cleared out the first thing they have to do to try to

brian trasher, the familiar name for the united cajun navy spokesman.thing horrific happens. this is just what they do. brian, great to see you. sorry under these circumstance. >> thank you, neil. thanks for helping us spread out the word like you always do. neil: it starts with you, brian. that is a big task to put it mildly. you're dealing with massive power outages and getting to locations. just tell us what is going on right now? >> first of all, when we first started getting the reports saturday there was help needed, search-and-rescue teams, our dogs that are able to recover people, drone teams, things like that, we knew that was all going to be necessary. one of the things that is very different than even what we're used to mostly dealing with hurricanes, hurricanes you can get few days advanced notice where the lan fall will be, how bad it will be. tornadoes are really just, they don't announce themselves, they show up. i was talking to general horore, the early warning civil, assuming you were in the path, you had 12 minutes. that is not enough

. >> reporter: we've seen it before, the cajun navy, not even a component of the united states navy,those things. how do you go about search and rescue. average citizens diving into places and things like that. if you're a local sheriff or local cop how are you organizing that? >> reporter: the first response is securing the scene first, or massive medical emergency, you don't just waltz in without making sure the scene is secured first about a catastrophe like this where you have people trapped under collapsed buildings that's not really an option, search and rescue is a complicated requirement, hundreds of thousands of specific training, to make sure you're not causing a situation for yourself. think about it. if you don't know what to look for, a team of four five search and rescue specialists, you defeated the purpose, such a specific field with expertise. i admire these guys. i am clabic, severely claustrophobic. do you know what kind of spaces the guys walk into, incredible danger, the men and women who do this. will: appreciate you, watching you tonight and filtered and always
