cal berkeley, occupy protesters have tents out despite the fact that they were told by the chancellor that there were not allowed to set up encampment. the police are there but they are not doing anything. craig skalar has the latest. >>darya: how close are the police to the campers? >>craig: the campers are on the steps of sprawl hall. the police are on the plaza itself. there are 5-10 university police and alameda county sheriff's. so far, nothing in terms of direct contact except for casual conversation. about 20-30 minutes ago, there was another warning from police to disperse. the police have made it pretty clear that the tents have to go. this comes one week after the last incident. one university police officer told me that as far as he could tell, nothing will happen for a while. it is hard to say for sure. you ask about the bicycle over there. that is probably power generation. they are being rather resourceful in their efforts to be here. >>darya: bullets ended ak-47 were recovered nearby, a bullet hit a white house window. secret service says it does not conclusively connec

today occupy oakland protester are planning a march and will join the occupy cal movement in a one-day general strike at uc berkeley where students and police clashed last week. >> reporter: they certainly did. this general strike is a day long into the evening series of events. one of the events going to be professors ideally linking arms and enough showing up to surgeon the administration building and shut it -- up to surround the administration building and shut it down. another event occupy cal joined by occupy oakland to set up tents. look at what happened last week when the same tactic was tried. police moved in and tore down the tents and arrested 40 people. since that time the university has granted a.m.ness toy every person who was arrested -- amnesty, to every person who was arrested on campus. today's walk out is to bring attention to a host of issues certainly occupy wall street is the number one. also, there's a problem with the education funding in the state of california. to that end there will be a march to a local high school and community college. uc regents were scheduled to meet tomorrow and the

about 3 students are here right now in support of the "occupy" cal movement. uc-berkeley students and faculty are calling for an all- day general strike and rally as part of the "occupy cal" movement. but they are hoping to avoid a repeat of last week's events where they clashed with campus police. here's some video from last week when about 40 students were arrested. later this morning a lawyer representing seven of the students is filing a lawsuit against uc-berkeley police which i should point out is separate from the city of berkeley's police department. the students allege the campus police used excessive force against unarmed students saying police hit them with batons and grabbed them by the hair. university and campus police declined comment. students are calling on the chancellor to resign. the chancellor and regents are canceling their meeting for tomorrow . there is a missed opportunity to come together to work on solutions, but investigators say they received reports that anarchist were planning to disrupt the meeting. >> it was evidence that law enforcement f

at u cal berkeley entirely peaceful, people were arrested. dave zion on the program later joining us from washington said november 9 was a generational wakeup call to every student on every campus in this country. which side are you on? do you stand with the thugs of penn state or do you stand with occupiers of berkeley. stakes are higher than a bcs bowl. you operate on campus. one of the things that's been really interesting about watching the occupy movement is that it is largely driven by young people, if you look at the folks who showed up on the sleeping bags the first night. it was 20, 25 years old. do you feel like there is in the university of texas, austin, a big public university, very big-time sports program and also budget cuts. do you feel like there is a kind of political activation happening among students there? are you seeing that of late. >> let me preface, i went to und undergrad, so i've been around big sports my whole life. there is this culture with the sports team. they go out, turn over cars, light fires, in the street

leave football aside, penn state is up there with cal berkeley, with michigan, with ucla as finest academicc university in the country. but what happened is, the program itself was insular and the president who learned about it, the program was so important to the alumni getting, et cetera, that the president also made a mistake in judgment by not coming forward and doing something about this. yes, there's too much money in college football. there's too much at stake in college football. we forget that those players are kids. they're 18, 19, 20, 21 years old. by the way, the kids -- i was watching the beginning of the game and when the penn state kids came out and then the nebraska kids and the nebraska is also a big time program, but those kids ran on the field and knelt with the penn state kids, it was a touching moment. and i remembered that they're kids. for the penn state kid, they lost a father figure who they loved and loved and loved. i can't imagine what was going through their minds when they did it. but the kids did a great job yesterday and so did the students. >> you did a good

dozens of protesters were arrested at the occupy cal movement in berkeley.t says they will investigate the use of force that night. some have called the use of force excessive but this decision is not enough to please those injured in this clash. kimberlee sakamoto is here to look at what might prove to be the biggest piece of evidence on the lawsuit from last week. >>kimberlee: there was a press conference announcing the suit against the university and police officers. the civil suit claims that the officers used excessive force when try to remove protesters. the video went of cairo. you're really could be the protesters biggest piece of evidence. take it at this, i want to keep one person in particular in mind, this person right here she is one of the people in the lawsuit. as you can see from the video she is one of the first people to be hit with the the time she they uc- berkeley alumni. she says that they want to send a message to students in the entire movement saying we have your back and we will defend our rights in each other we will stand our grou
