cal campus. the string of fires started friday. now, i did talk with a berkeley police officer out here this morning who was on the seen of this most recent fire t was a cash tran set on fire outside of sam's market. that officer told me this fire was called in about 3:50 this morning and had no damage to the nearby building. the flames were called in by a cal student walking by. >> i didn't see anyone at l, no. and it was -- the flames hadn't even come over the sides of the bin yet. so it had to have been a really fresh fire. >> reporter: so you called 911? >> i called 911 very quickly. >> reporter: now, just after midnight this morning, there was another suspicious fire at bancroft. that fire caused damage to two crash cans and a motor scooter. we're also hearing about a third fire just before 8:00 last night. you add those to the seven other fires and you have a long list. the fires have been all around the campus area. one was near a dorm. it appears, then, mostly they involve trash cans and fairly mild damage. this porta-potty is still sitting out in front of the business, where it was set on fire. we've also seen several police cars patrolling in and arou
