there is a magnesium chloride and calcium chloride and a combination and all of them do melting, but they can damage the concrete and the mortar between the sidewalks. if it is a little bit of ice, add some water to the salt to spread it. if you want traction without damaging the concrete and the plants, the extension service says to use some sand and fireplace ashes if you have got those or kitty litter to improve the traction. it won't melt the ice, but you won't have the damage either. and winter chemicals used to melt the ice can be dangerous for your pets. we contacted friendship animal hospital for ways to keep the pets safe. first of all, you have to keep them away from the antifreeze. some people pour them on sidewalks as a deyizer, and it is a really bad idea. it has a sweet taste to dogs and cats, and they are attracted to it, but the vets say that if your pet swallows the tiniest amount, it can cause irreversible damage that could lead to your pet's death. and veterinarians say to avoid any toxicity by removing any chemicals off of the paws when you get home. and if you wa
