calfire says the fire torched more than 400 acres near north flynn road after it broke out around 1:15 this afternoon. heavy smoke was visible from 580. strong winds fanned the flames toward power lines in the area, but did not affect them. even though the fire is contained, firefighters remain on scene at this hour, mopping up. no injuries reported. police are investigating the charred body of a woman, found in an upscale area of oakland. a neighbor first spotted it early this morning in the rockridge neighborhood, at ivanhoe and chabot roads. christin ayers reports, the grisly discovery came as a shock to the usually-quiet neighborhood. christin. the crime scene is clear nowâbut the street is still charred where the body was found >> a sleepy swath of north oakland known as a virtual haven from violent crime. the area's crime prevention website shows an average of five violent crimes happen here per month well below the city average. >> never heard of that. >> i know of robberies but never heard of a dead body. >> the body appears to be a female. there is some fire damage to the body

temperatures in the high 90s, this fire so far has burned more than 200 acres according to calfire of grass since it broke out a little more than an hour ago. >> you saw one helicopter there moments ago dropping water on to that fire or fire retardant on to that fire. you also can see, well we could see it a moment ago on the bottom of the screen there was an orange industrial next to the burned out area. that is fire retardant that has been dropped to try and stop the fire from growing. presumably it is now over 200 acres. that figure we were first given at about 5:30 and it is now 6:15. so that was 45 minutes ago and the fire is continuing to spread. they are bringing in more manpower as we speak. more firefighters, more bulldozers, more helicopters. there are already two helicopters working the scene. as we get more information we bring it to you. at this point that fire is still out of control. >> and as you can see one more point about the fire -- >> so what came first the chicken or the town? here in san juan batista people are split whether chickens are a asset or nuisance. >>>

calfire is working on it. as you said making sure this does not flare up again. you can see how close it came to the property down there at the bottom of the hill. next up, an assessment at daylight. get a more accurate count of how much burned. this started at 9:30 last night. called the flynn fire off paterson, took off quickly driven about i the winds. if you know the area you know it's near the wind mills so it's pretty much always windy. this follows another fire near 580. that out, burned 50 acres. firefighters saying that they are not related. we wanted to mention that patterson pass skrod killed at cross road and will be throughout the morning. there's quite a bit of equipment moving. at least 25 trucks up and down the roads. this is an alternate for some coming from the mountain house area closer in toward the bay area. something you want to consider if you are driving this way this morning. the cause of both of these fires still under investigation. reporting live near the altamont pass, christie smith, today in the bay. >> what's interesting you can he

calfire reminds people you need use them in the area where you bought them. you take them to a city like oakland and the whole thing becomes illegal. this is one of the fire stations here in oakland where they have collection bins set up for people to turn in fireworks. police and fire will be patrolling looking for illegal fireworks around the city. we have video of someone shooting fireworks toward a b.a.r.t. train, something you don't want to do. it's not just potentially dangerous but people caught with fireworks can be fined up to $1,000, large quantities can get you jail time and fines up to 5 to $10,000. of course there's also the issue of fireworks safety. it can start fires. fire danger very high this year. it's going to be hot and humid. it can burn hands and legs. in some places you can use the safe and sane ones, san mateo and santa cruz counties, safe and sane fireworks are okay. in capitola and watsonville, pacifica and san bruno, and alameda county they can be used at ala me ta creek park, emerald glenn park, also in certain places in union cit

calfire says it has now burned more than 13,000 acres on the los coyotes indian reservation. firefighters say they have been relying on support. >>> we've been watching that fire at fairfield for hours. let's talk about the health effects here. >> let's go on outside. we have a live camera shot from the fire. as you follow the fire on channel 2 for the last three hour, we've watched it from basically the beginning of the fire to now. you can see it's basically almost out. you still have some hot spots here. you still see some hot smoke coming up. but nothing like we saw just a few hours ago when tons of toxic particulate was going into the atmosphere. what we're seeing in this area, you see how that plume is tilting over, there's a little more wind out there. that's good news because it's going to disburse that smoke more efficiently than two hours ago when there was no wind and the smoke turned into a mushroom cloud. it was dropping the heaviest particulate into a neighborhood surrounding the fire. the winds are going to blow this smoke into a more diffused environment. so t
