calfire sent a full response including fire fighting aircraft but that was cancelled after firefighters managed to contain the fire. and people who live in this neighborhood say several trees have fallen recently and last night several thousand customers in the east bay lost power. >>> we have new information tonight about the killing of a student from san francisco state. police now say he was shot in the back and that the attack was unprovoked. also today, police showed off two assault weapons, combat knives and survival gear that they discovered from the home of the suspect. investigators are saying he shot valdez as the 20-year-old student was getting off a b.a.r.t. train. police say they are relieved they have arrested the suspect when they did because they say the suspect may have been planning a much larger attack. >> we're just glad nothing played out other than it did. but that doesn't do us any good with poor mr. valdez. >> police say several other people claimed the suspect pulled guns on them. as for the weapon, police are trying to determine if he acquired them legally. >>>

calfire says the cause has been traced to people who were target shooting. full containment, the fire is expected by this evening. >>> a mother in the east bay says the first day of school was traumatic and dangerous for her 3-year-old daughter with autism. she says a mixup with the school bus could have also put other children in danger. nbc bay area's marianne favro joins us from hayward with the story. >> reporter: alicia gonzalez says two things went horribly wrong. first, the bus picked up her daughter and took her to the wrong school. she had to get off the bus, on to a different bus to go to the right school. then she says after school the bus failed to pick her up and take her home. when alicia gonzalez put her 3-year-old daughter on a durham school services bus wednesday in hayward, she expected the company to take special care of caitlyn who has autism. instead, she says the bus never picked her little girl up from school. >> i was, of course, very concerned. i had her arranged for an emergency contact to pick caitlyn up and take her home. when cai

daniel berlant from calfire, joins us on the phone. >> this fire continues to grow yosemite nationalues to grow, but so does the optimism of firefighters in getting control over it. over 75 percent contained. >> will we have seen some cooler temperatures. we still see dry conditions and it's burning very actively. so the fire is still growing but the containment is progressing. today we had 4600 firefighters on the front line but we still have a lot bowling this fire. >> pam: where which areas are away from the well fire? >> the most part of the act of fires on the east and south side of the fire. it is the toughest ticket to because it are very remote and the training is very and accessible. this fire has a potential to burn for several weeks even though we're making good progress. >> pam: are the stuff evacuation orders still in effect? >> before a wilton these are small communities, but the thousands of homes that were under a that tuition but by andrÉs have been lifted today. those orders have been listed today. lifted >> not very often that we see a fire like this sort it burns

calfire is reporting the fire is 75% contained you. cooler weather is helping firefighters. neitherly 2636,000 acres have been burned. that's almost 370 square miles. it could still take until september 20th for full containment. 111 buildings have burned including 11 homes. we'll find out today the safety levels for san francisco's drinking water. mayor ed lee and the san francisco public utilities commission will update the public how the rim fire is affecting the hetch hetchy water supply. ash water has fallen on the surface of the reservoir. hetch hetchy provides water to 2.6 million customers in the bay area. >>> 7:55. in santa clara county, they are setting a record too kill mosquitoes. the fleet of fogging trucks to scheduled to go to work in milpitas. that will be the 10th time this year they've sprayed. it's not likely to be the last time. experts say the mosquito season will probably run through late october if the weather stays warm. the old record was seven foggings in one year. that was set in 2007. visitors are buzzing about an increase in yellow jackets. vecto
