southern california dealing with a lot to right now.s check in with ktvu meteorologist rosemary oroczo for a look at your forecast here and down south as well. rosemary. >> yeah. sandra garcia, we'll start here in southern california where it is still very, very dry. and the winds are gusting at this time. over at the palisades fire, relative humidity is 20%. the winds are gusting to 15mph or so. but as we've been talking about since the beginning, this is just one reading. if you notice, within those hills, mountains, canyons, you can see the topography here. it's really hard to tell just how quick those gusts are coming through parts of those canyons, as well as in the mountains. relative humidity at the eaton fire 15% and expected to remain between 10 and 20% over the next couple of days. so critically dry right now. the gusts there reported to 20mph. i am seeing observations of anywhere from 40 to 60mph and a few isolated areas. so the winds are definitely out there for today. 50 to 60 mile per hour gusts expected. and then tomorrow

comparatively speaking to northern california, you look at the wind, both the northern and southern californiaeriencing offshore wind. but southern california seeing more intense you can see that in those colors. and then, of course, relative humidity levels. so that is how dry is the air and the darker the color is the more dry the air is. and certainly again, once again, you see in southern california, they are incredibly dry because of this offshore wind that keeps rolling. it dries things out. so traditionally you start to see high pressure on the other side. the sierra, when you have santa ana winds, just explain to kind of where this comes from and what they do is they build and then it rushes down the mountains. and when it rushes down the mountains that compresses and warms the air than its journey takes it across deserts, and that, of course, dries it out even further. and then we bring it into the canyons that squeezes it and you get more of that compression and then rushes out to the ocean. so that's the journey. the path that this takes and the way this wind kind of dries the air o

so it's not just southern california. it is also the bay area that is right here in the midst of these high wind advisories for us until 10:00am. so we're right on the tail end of this strong offshore wind event. it will last a bit longer for southern california. neighbors and with containment. nothing close to anywhere progress made for a lot of these fires. this is a scary situation down south wind gusts still very breezy, not as windy as we were just a couple of hours ago. so we're already starting to see that calming process. and you can see that by the time we work our way through the day, we're going to be finishing the day. nice and calm. so it is gradual coming for us. very welcome. change of pace, 40's to 50's for our current temps, oakland at 57 petaluma and the battle at 48 degrees right now. little bit chilly in fairfax at 39. now today is going to start windy and calmer. that is definitely the good news for us for southern california. it's going to take longer to get there and we'll keep you updated on that.

a red flag warning has been issued in southern california. again, forecasters calling the wind event a dangerous situation, threatening to fuel the multiple fires that have already been burning for a week now in l.a. county. here's a live look at the cal fire's map. the palisades fire and eaton fire remain the focus. the smaller fires, the hurst and kenneth fire. while those are mostly out. and this is an aerial view of the aftermath in pacific palisades. after the palisades fire tore through the neighborhood, neighborhood search and rescue crews and efforts are now underway. the fire has moved east, prompting evacuation orders in brentwood and encino. about 92,000 people are currently under evacuation orders. the death toll has risen to at least 25 people killed, more than 12,000 structures, including buildings and cars, have been destroyed. the palisades fire stands nearly 24,000 acres, about 14% contained. meanwhile, the eaton fire is at 14,000 acres and is 33% contained. fire crews have managed to get the upper hand on that fire, now work
