california . look at those numbers. look at what's going on with the congressional office, and i would warn the people of this country, youw, you get what you vote for. here in california when they voted to raise our taxes, they also voted to give us a two-thirds majority in the state senate and the state assembly. and so the people who voted to increase our taxes year and voted for the two-thirds majority by the democrats are going to rue the day they did that because all the people who give to the state of california, the people who create the jobs are ing to be leaving, and it's going to leave them holding the bag. gerri: yes, and that means taxes go higher and higher because you have your people supporting the texas. and that could happen to this entire country, frankly. there is no rule that says people have to live in this country. >> no. look at the ounder of facebook. where did he go? he gave up his citizenship and left the united states of america. that's what he did. and that was a democrat, not a republican, in fact. again, look at the sports figures. look what happened to, about a week ago, nicholson, he says

because california has some of the highest state taxes in the country. also, hawaii, alaska, new york, the motorists there are going to have a hard time at the pump when they realize that their state taxes are pretty high versus the national average. the national average is trending for about 49-cent as gallon. some of these places, jenna in california you'll see 60 sents a gallon in state and local taxes. you certainly see that in areas of new york city and parts of new jersey and connecticut. what we are seeing is a third of the population right now in the united states is within driving distance of $4 a gallon for gas. so we are going to be watching this issue, jenna as states across the country move to raise their state taxes on gasoline. we are hearing that story playing out in new hampshire, wyoming and washington state. we know that sthaeut and federal taxes have hardly bulged over the last year or so, certainly federal taxes have stayed the same since the 90s. as they struggle with fiscal problems they may turn to raising taxes on gas jeno case,

i wasment born in the united statesment i came to this country, to california, when i was a 10-year-old with a single mother and two small brothers living in a motel. my first experience at public school, i must have had a kick me sign on my back because being difficult, as you would understand, made me a target and that imprint stayed with me for many years and guided me in a very dysfunctional angry self-loathing kind of way as many children do. today, 160,000 kids are not in public school because they are afraid of what someone might say or do to them. so that lives in me and like some of you and your own stories, i was fortunate enough to use it to become a teacher, a principal, and assistant superintendent of public schools and now a nonprofit director whose single mission is to do what we're doing to make sure kids go to school where they feel safe and included. one of my personal stories of value, it helps to connect us because, i don't want to speak in cliche, but it's harder it -- to hate somebody when you know their story. common ground doesn't necessarily make us best friends

people so often lose sight of is that this bill, 1506, is a small effort in the state of california and in the country of the united states to try to roll back the horrendous rates of incarceration that have happened in this country over the last 30 years. i mean, that's the context, right? the united states, i think most of you know these numbers now, but we're less than 5% of the world's population but almost 25% of the world's incarcerated population. we rank first in the world in the per capita incarceration of our fellow citizens. the russians are fading fast in second or third place together with the belarus people. the rates of the incarceration are five, six, seven, eight times than most in other societies, europe and elsewhere, though their rates of nonviolent crime and drug use are not that much different than ours. so if another country were to lock up its own people at the rate that we do, and if our rates of incarceration were more normative to the rest of the world, we would regard with that other country was doing as a massive violation of human rights. that's the way we would look at i
