just on wednesday, the attorneys general of new york, california, rhode island, washington, oregon, and the district of columbia released an excellent new report. it's called "setting the record straight on local involvement in federal and civil immigration enforcement." i recommend it to all of you, it makes many of the same points i made today. and from a law enforcement perspective, it tells many examples of immigrants who have come forward and been very helpful in the arrest of criminals. and it also really explains in detail why these sanctuary policies are good for the states that they represent. and then another study i want to point to is a recent study, 2017 report by professor tom long of the university of california, san diego. they found in sanctuary counties, they have lower crime rates and higher economic indicators than non-sanctuary counties. they looked at counties that have sanctuary policies and those that do not. they found that on average there are 35 1/2 fewer crimes committed per 10,000 people in sanctuary counties compared to non-sanctuary counties. they found th

(catherine) the woman says she was kidnapped at knife-point friday....taken from her san jose apartmentand forced to drive hundreds of miles in her own car - into oregon.. this map shows the area of southern oregon where she was found about 10-pm friday night.. in coos county oregon she ran out of gas....that's when she says she saw a chance to escape....running and hiding in tall grass for hours. she eventually got to an intersection off highway 101 in the town of bandon...and was picked up by a passing driver. the driver told sheriff's deputies the terrified woman had been running down the road. they later searched for the suspect - but didn't find him. the abduction happened on the eve of her graduation from san jose state....and it was her worried family who called police when she didn't show up to meet them for her big day. the woman is back in the bay area and has been treated for injuries...she says the man whokidnapped her also beat her in the face san jose polic

loopholes such as eliminating the state income tax write-off for high state taxes such as oregon and california are easy commute to the 50% corporate tax rate, and is also full steam ahead on getting rid of the writer for high tax states? >> secretary mnuchin and director collins outlined the principles of his tax reform plan. we continue to meet with stakeholder and members of capitol hill. that conversation continues as a set of acid, continue to meet with individuals and those are part of those talks. his plan has been pretty clear from the get as far as what he wants to see. and the framework in which he is being guided. >> subsidize entire tax base, place like florida and tennessee can't write off your income taxes. >> again, i'm not going to get ahead of that debate. the principles that were outlined explained with the presidents starting point is. he will have those discussions. >> on the search for the new fbi director there been some critics is that in this particular political climate whoever it is should be a current or former politician to resolve a list of people being interviewed.

a lot of counties including cook county, including certain counties in california, including washington and oregonstate counties that don't notify us at all. the second thing i want to point out is the legal authority for detainers. again, tracy will talk more about this. one thing i want to point out is right here it says eight usc 1226 on a warrant issued by the attorney general and alien may be arrested and detained pending a decision on whether the alien is to be removed from the united states. there's been a lot of question about when the united states has legal authority to detain a criminal alien. the answer is within the ministry of war and they are allowed to detain somebody pending that decision. one of my panel members mentioned moreno. marino was the case in the northern district of illinois in fact held that warrantless arrest was improper in that instance. it had nothing to do with the rest based on an ministry of boring. that's clear because again, eight usc 1226 clearly says on a warrant issued by the attorney general and an alien may be arrested and detained. ice has a new policy
