this is east of calistoga. let's bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. i see that picture behind you. that was an incredible sight earlier today. >> certainly. this is available on our nbc bay area twitter page as well. you can get a closer look at that. when you get fires, it really creates its own weather. you get smoke plumes going up 2,000 to 4,000 feet. you get all this hot air. it rises up and eventually cools down and it has to go somewhere. so it heads downwards and creates these erratic downdrafts. that's what firefighters face today and likely through tomorrow with a very tough effort coming with more hot weather in the forecast. we're going have more on that coming up. but i do want to get you the latest conditions if you live in and around this area. the good news, at least right now at 11:17 is we're not undergoing any kind of windstorm event in the overnight hours. i don't think winds are really going to top 15 to 20 miles per hour. and we have increased humidity. so really a little bit of recovery here for the firefighters. at least over t

i did see 48 calistoga. that is that weak little front. low cloud deck, low overcast.away from the coast. 80s and a lot of 50s and 60s to the west. here is sal. >>> we are looking at conditions getting more crowded all over the place. on the east shore freeway it is held steady. just a little bit more drive time between the carquinez bridge and mccarthur maze. a lot of people have friday off. that almost mean people are trying to extend their weekend if they will. tomorrow will have lighter conditions. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza it is only a 15 minute drive time. maybe up to 20 minutes now. no problems on the actual bridge getting into the city. of course no problems between san francisco and oakland. south bay commute continues to be very good here. we don't see a lot of slow traffic on 101. it is a little early for this commute to get going. we did see some slowing on northbound 101. that is all 280 and 85 still look good. it is 6:32 let's go back to the desk. >>> this morning crews remain on the fire lines of the wild fire continues to grow in napa co
