also at 39 areas like calistoga in cloverdale where the snow is on the ground. you're hanging out right around freezing. we're keeping you updated. so stay with us. you've been talking a lot about all our roads, but especially highway 17. yeah, i was 17 is one you want to avoid at all costs because you can't get through southbound or northbound there bear creek road. we have an accident there. you also have downed trees, all of those slick conditions and john was just talking about it will tran has been live out there. we'll talk about that in a moment. >> they're also saying don't take alternate slide back. roads, highway 35 or highway 9 as you've got issues along those as well. if it's an emergency and only in that case, maybe take highway one around. the chp is discouraging you from taking any of those back roads right there. 20 minute, wet slick commute. high winds across our bridges taken time as you're traveling, bart delays. we've got them about 20 extra minutes at that into your morning drive 17 minutes, a 80 to 1, 1, via the san mateo bridge or richmond

but how about calistoga? 38 degrees. same leaning. you're looking at 38 degrees there, calistoga. 32 and freezing. you get to kelsey bill and you're talking. 34 degrees so yeah. when you're talking about the possibility of snow, you start looking at some of those temperatures realize that is a very likelihood of some of those places overnight. tonight, freezing temperatures ahead. low's going to be in the low to mid 30's and then unusually low snow. we're going to keep it down about 1000 to about 1500 feet, probably 1000 feet in the north bay, 1500 feet elsewhere around the bay area. but that's where it's going to stick. it's likely going to fall even below that overnight tonight. so if you're standing outside, you may just see a couple of snowflakes coming your way. bay area mountain peaks. yeah, you could see upwards of maybe a foot of snow across some of the highest peaks in the south. they were talking about mount hamilton. some of that heavy snowfall moving in there. but now this front is finally making its way on shore. this is

back on reporting live in calistoga. i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news. >> thanks so much for that report from. >> and the east bay, anybody who looked up at mount diablo today probably saw some snow on the mountainside. kron four's charles clifford gives us a closer look. >> well, here on mount diablo, there is snow on the mountain side at the moment. i'm standing about halfway to the summit. we can just see thick blankets of snow across a large portions of mount diablo. overnight, the wind and the rain knocked over a lot of old oak trees that are blocking the roadway. there's also very slick conditions toward the summit. so state parks has closed the entrances, including the one at the northern end, the north gate entrance. there's a lot of folks trying to get up here on friday to check out the snow. they are being turned around at least as of midday. and i talked to one guy who says he comes up here every time it snows to hike around. >> last couple times a day coming walked in the snow. they let road open up to the brink stage. so from t

so north of tubs lane in calistoga, all lanes are closed there. some highways impacted by this weather that i was coming into the city this morning. really, really intense high winds across the bay ridge. we have high wind advisories for all of our bridges. please drive slow. 8 minutes mace to that fremont street exit your san mateo bridge about 12 minutes. a 80 to 101. your richmond center fell bridge going to take you 8 minutes there. and that golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 20 minutes. i know our director lori was mentioning that the roads are very slick in marin county coming down, even black ice on the road. so that means drive slow today. leave your house earlier. all this cold storm is bringing that snow to the bay area mountaintops. and it looks like more than just that. east bay people are also making the traveled to mount diablo to see it. but as kron four's, dan thorn tells us these conditions also bring potential dangers. >> it's a rare sight in the bay area. snow covering the ground and the tops of trees on mount diablo. a real t

also, 29 through calistoga remains closed.t to turn your attention toward the tri-valley drive times because that's where chp is reporting icy conditions along westbound 580 near the altamont pass, to grant line road slowing to 27 minutes. it's slowing along 680 and 84. this area typically tends to get really busy whenever we see rain, the construction zone through the sunol grade and we expect to see slowing. through the east bay, 680 from 580 to vargas road, there was an earlier crash. now we're looking at about 19 minutes. bridge drive times, also the berkeley curve along westbound 80 to the bay bridge, about 13 minutes. i'll be back with another update in just a few. >>> overnight snowfall impacting lower elevations that have not seen snow in years. on the floor of napa valley and number of towns, most notably calistoga and surrounding hills dealt with a series of power outages. it went off last night about about three times, actually, and then about two o'clock. it's been off since then. but the many folks who have homes above the napa valley floor had to contend with something more than just the occasional power outage. that was lots of snow. as a result, the napa county office of emergency services issued a shelter in place advisory. like most area residents, napa folk are not used to local driving on what can be extremely slippery. still. or the underlying ice have since issued an update, and basically, we want people to be cautious because of the recent weather and the impact on the road specifically in the unincorporated parts of the county, especially west of highway 29, east of silverado trail county lacks any significant snow plow capabilities. quite a few roads in the higher elevations were closed highway 29 over mount st helena was closed not only due to snow, but a number of fallen trees that completely blocked the road

calistoga? 9 inches of snow cloverdale 6 inches of snow. renda, 3 inches of snow and campfield an inch and a half of snow. and we have snow reports around the bay area today. they were not the only ones see just to the east bay, the berkeley hills. yeah, they have some 3 inches of snow on the ground there to also you saw the video woodside, 3 inches officially on the ground there. but snow reports in many parts of the bay area following the oakland hills down 800 feet or so and other spots to now, we're starting to see another round of some moisture moving in. and guess what? look at clayton right now. we've got some snow begin to fall in and around that area. folks, you may want to look out your window there. as you can see some of that snow falling across some of the peaks there. some of the mountainous regions right now, the air is very cold out there. we're going to see more of that throughout the night tonight into early tomorrow morning. then i think it's going to start to back up. but not only do we see a lot of rain and snow. we saw

now one viewer sent in this picture from calistoga and napa county, wrote overnight.eone moved my house and my pond from napa valley to tahoe. check it out. you can see the house. the car all covered up with snow looks like a couple of inches and more. they've got a dock there as well. and just a lovely scene of the snowy hellos. around the pod of their property. their viewers were also captivated by the side of snow falling along skyline boulevard in oakland. that's about 1200 ft. elevation in the east bay hills, darren mason and summer lens and in this video from the head and take a look. looks like tahoe. mason told us so a lot of down trees and stuck cars just after 10 o'clock this morning and some of the scenes that take your breath away. look at this image of mont diablo taken from brentwood so on the eastern slope from the delta, looking forward, the green hills the white snow reflected in the water below a lot of people taking the time to pause and enjoy some of the natural beauty that we are so lucky. so lucky to have around right here in the bay area. thanks

the 51 year-old father from calistoga spent 2 weeks in the hospital intubated and on a ventilator in a coma. it was probably the worst experience ever had. of course, legionnaires is a bacterial pneumonia that spreads in the air. the napa county health department found the source of legion air in the area that summer to contaminated water vapor from a decorative found and a cooling tower on the roof of embassy suites, napa valley, which is owned by hilton and located on california boulevard. it is about one mile away from downtown gross art has now filed a complaint against the hotel and several others for negligence. we have evidence that my client contracted legionnaires disease from the legionella bacteria that was growing and spreading in the water at the embassy suites, napa valley hotel, his attorney, victoria, are soft alleges the hotel's water was at nearly. >> 30 times, the acceptable level of bacteria. she says her client would never have gotten so sick if the water had been tested and treated correctly. how many other people out there ended up sick and in the hospital and

and 44 degrees getting cool in calistoga. but there you go. things are changing high pressure that has brought all that wonderful weather to the bay area this week. let's kind of giveaway now start to slide a little further to the east. you see things get a little more active out there in the middle of the civic. look at this cut on the back side of that frontal system. so that's going to be low. that really is the driver of the system bringing on shore by tomorrow afternoon with a chance of some rain. and that will continue as the walls right down the coastline as we head in towards saturday, too. so tomorrow plan on those clouds on the increase. it will be a dry commute early on tomorrow morning by the afternoon. that changes chance of some showers rotating on shore. you see right here overnight tonight, skies stay mostly clear. then tomorrow morning, dry. but the afternoon, there you go. not a huge storm, but a chance to make things a little bit wet out there on the roadways. late in the day. and then that low kind of just wanders through t

calistoga picked up nine inches of snow in the north bay. lower amount as you go lower in elevation, but the snow line pushed down to around 1000 feet this morning. since then, it has risen backup. in terms of the amount of rain, this was a nice rain event for us, two thirds of an inch in san jose, over one inch in san francisco and one inch around kentfield. and we had thunderstorms last night producing small, soft hail, the little pellets that fell, and over 200 lightning strikes around the bay area last night into early this morning. a lot of those were offshore, but a lot of those were also overland around the bay area. we are going to have a break in the action right now. the first alert doppler shows activity through the central valley and still snowing through the sierra, some of that is going to be back later tonight. we will talk about that and we will track the next wave of rain that is not too far away, coming up in a few minutes. >> probably the biggest issue has been along highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains, it was shut down

in the north bay we had about an inch of rain from napa to santa rosa, calistoga had almost an inch andalf of rain, 2 inches for san rafael, and for the east bay, three-quarters of an inch of rain in livermore towards about the same in oakland and an inch of rain in concord, almost an inch of rain in san francisco, and almost a half inch of rain in san jose. but as you move toward the santa cruz mountains, it was nearly 4 inches of rainfall for weekend. looking at where we stand at this point for water year rain update, santa rosa has measured over 25 inches of rainfall, and we're still at a surplus of nearly 6 inches of rainfall. san francisco as well as oakland had about 22 inches of rain. and then livermore, we had 17 inches of rain, which is 8 1/2 inch s of rainfall above what's normal. we're also well above normal for this year, the snow pack putting us at a statewide average of 206%. mammoth mountain tweeted out they topped 400 inches of snow for the season. if we don't get any more snow, we'll still end out the year with above-normal snow pack as we head into spring. we're back t
