populated region in the la basin there, east of downtown la magnitude 4.4, not too far away from the caltech seismology lab. we did see that during the day today, and you could see if you look along interstate ten there off towards the east, that red star is where the 1987 5.9 earthquake occurred. and this event, as you see there on the color coding on the map, very strong shaking as you had there in those areas in orange. this led to 200 people being injured and eight people losing their lives. that was a high impact event in 1987. now compare that to the earthquake we had today. light to moderate shaking enough to knock some things off some shelves, which we did see in parts of southern california. and you might be surprised to know that an earthquake of this size does occur about 17 times per year. the 4.4 earthquake that we saw today. so a reminder not just for southern california, but back home here in the bay area. keep your earthquake kit at the ready. these happen more often than you might think. janelle, back to you. okay. thanks so much, rob. and to get more information on how to p
