a manhunt under way in palo alto near high and hawthorne just two blocks from the palo alto caltrain station. marla tellez is joining us right now. she arrived on scene just a moment ago and has brand new details for us. >> reporter: i just got briefed by a police officer who gives us brand new information, as you just mentioned. he said that a woman in this apartment complex, living in this apartment complex at the intersection of high and hawthorne street, where you can still see plenty of police officers this morning, this woman called police at 2:20 this morning saying that a man -- she woke up to find a man in her apartment. she screamed, she called 911 and the man allegedly just took off on foot. there is an active search going on right now. they let out the police dogs, this is what they tell us, for a canine search in the area and did not come up with any suspects at this point. the good news is that the woman is downtown at the police station right now giving police a better statement. she is not hurt so that is the good news here. in terms of information regarding this male suspect

the manhunt taking place on hawthorne near high street just a few blocks from the palo alto caltrain station, not far from stanford university. marla tellez was the first bay area reporter on the scene. marla, what are police saying? >> reporter: laura, good morning to you. police tell us that this all happened just before 2:30 this morning right at this small apartment complex right at the corner of high and hawthorne street. you can see crime scene tape still up today as officers are busy inside collecting evidence. they are also busy speaking to neighbors about what they are calling a very serious crime. though i do want to point out right away, the victim, a woman in her 20s, was not hurt. this is according to police. they say she woke to find an intruder, a man wearing dark clothing inside her apartment. she screamed, called 911 and he took off. >> initially we set up a perimeter and we searched with the dogs, searched the area. did not come up with the suspect. but we are going to continue searching for him, but that's going to come from details in the investigation. >> reporter: at th

here are picture we shot at the redwood city caltrains station. people doing planes, trains and automobiles for their thanksgiving travel. we are waiting for things to pick up. it's only 5 a.m. but we'll talk to people about how the rain is impacting their travel plans. but first let's check in with lawrence karnow because he has more information on how long this rain is going to last. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, the rain continues around the bay area but it tapers off toward the latter part of the morning. right now hi-def doppler picking up on all the showers outside. it pushes through parts of the south and east bay now. you can see the rain line shifted southward. the cold front moving through overnight with winds. pockets of moderate rainfall. if you are at the 280, more of that towards sunnyvale, milpitas. we'll see this on and off this morning but then it will we understand down. by the middle of the morning the middle of the day, sunshine will peek through. right now cloudy skies. temperatures are very mild if you are he

caltrain situation here. the trains are single tracking here near the palo alto station. cal tran personnel are directing passengers. the bus bridge has been disconnected. trains are moving again. but it is major delays on caltrain because of a fatal crash near the palo alto station that's been cleared up but the trains are still single tracking in that area for the investigation. let's go out and take a look at some of these live pictures. 880 is moving along okay. some of the winds and weather may be leading to delays at sfo, almost three-hour delays for some flights today out of sfo in and out of sfo. check with your airline. moving along and taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's backed up for a moderate delay, 20, 25 minutes before you make it on the span. on the peninsula, the traffic is moderate, northbound 101 a little bit slow in san mateo as you approach the burlingame area. let's go to steve. >>> yes, very windy for some. gusts to almost 30 miles an hour. you saw the camera bouncing around. there's been some rain from sausalito to san francisco. you ca

the only thing i know of that would be close to there might be the caltrain where there's a station at potrero hill and there used to be one at paul. i don't know it's operational any more. there's the bayview station just at the san francisco, san mateo county line. but certainly bears paying attention in trying to figure out what steps can be made to, you know, go with light rail or some sort of other service that would get people to that area a lot quicker than the likely hour-plus trip it takes it from downtown to get out to some of those areas. those were the things -- and i also was very happy to see, -- again, it's hard to do these categorizations, but $81,000 earnings per worker is a pretty significant amount of money. i know there's a wide discrepancy depending on the types of jobs. but it's probably one of the higher averages per capita or in the united states, i would think. >> yeah, definitely, it reflects the economy we have that we're blessed with both in san francisco and regionally. >> that's a very good report. i plan to spend more time reading it in even more detail a

looking at this is that the light rail is going to swing south of the site and have the joint station between caltrain and muni metro just sort of just to the south of the schlage lock site. is that what i'm reading correctly there? >> yeah that's correct bach still part of the current plan. >> good. the other part is geneva extension. and that would be able to bring both traffic and presumably future light rail, other kind of transit along geneva and run it right across the freeway. and will connect up with the joint station so that you have a connection with the t -line so that trains that come down there don't deadhead. they can go right back that way, and also it connects the western part of san francisco with the eastern part. and then that entire line continues on and services [speaker not understood], executive park, and maybe even loops around the 3rd street. that's what i've envisioned. i think that's probably a really good system if we can try to work with mta. i think there is a joint study -- there has been a joint study between san mateo county and san francisco mta, and i think it's real
