we are doing this in conjunction with caltrans and some of the local preservation groups. we wanted to honor the terminal and its history before we move forward and build a new transit center. we will be planning to is that will be open to the public in different areas we're working with caltrans on so that folks can have the opportunity to see different pieces of the terminal and learn about its history before we move forward with construction. we will also be holding a media tour at the temporary terminal on august 2, and an open house that will be open to the public the next day, on august 3, in order for folks to comment on about how the temporary, works. different transit operators will have their own tables there, in addition to a tjpa table. actually, in addition to that, we will be hosting some community meetings at the tjpa as well, next wednesday, the 21st, at 5:30 p.m. on a temporary terminal, and on july 26 at 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m., which will be voted on demolition activities so we can update the neighbors and folks who live in the area on the phasing. >> t

i work at caltran's in sacramento at the headquarters level. i am at the corporate level and i don't get involved in district projects that often. on occasion i do, i work at the policy level, and do draft changes to the manuals and move us away from all cars all the time and towards a complete street perspective. and i comment on national guidance documents such as ashto guides and i provide input to the policy documents. and i do provide some technical assistance to the districts, and on occasion, they will ask for my advice on the correct approach in order to provide bicyclists or pedestrians with the same or better level of safety and mobility that we instinctively provide to drivers, and i enjoy sharing information with both our staff and anyone who asks. if anyone would like to know something about our caltran's policy says and free works or if you would like to borrow my slide show and use it, i would be thrilled. i love to share information and i develop research problem statements when i feel more research is needed on a question. such

caltrans heads southbound 680 toll lanes, starting at highway 84 near sunol.tretches south to 287 in milipitas. a flow of traffic determines drivers' cost, which could range from 30 cents to $6. >> there is a learning curve, no question. but the most important thing for drivers to keep in mind is that the lane is separated from the general purpose lanes by a double white lane. -- line. so you can't cut in and out like current carpool lanes. once in, you stay in until the designated exit points. and if you're not in, you can only get in at the designated entry points. >> we watched as last-minute computer tests were being done. the sensors over the toll lane will charge the driver's fastrak device. and that's another thing carpoolers would need to keep in mind. when they use the lane, it's free. but they have to make sure they put this transponder in its mylar bag or pull it down. otherwise they'll get charged. we're being told that it won't be picked up until 7:00 or sep:30. but-- 7:30. but that's not the case. sal, how does the rest of the bay area look? >> l

we've been working very closely with caltrans. we have been identifying the best project for the island. it is a very significant engineering challenge. there's only limited opportunity in terms of merging on and off the bay bridge. caltrans also improves some east on and off ramp improvements, which we are working with them on. finally, as part of the treasure island development authority, and they planned local circulation improvements. it will be a much better circulation network on and off the bridge and to

the fourth cycle working through caltrans local assistance has now been issued for local agencies interested in applying, grants up to $9 million for safety related projects. the bicycle plant injunction has been lifted in 2006, we will continue to work together with the mta to make sure, as has been our goal for the past year, that there is a steady stream of projects ready to implement. at this point, up 21 bicycle projects will be completed by the nba next year -- mta next year with a bike schedule of the end of your packet including the names and locations of the project that are fca funded, many of them using crop k. we kick off the san francisco transportation plan with additional members for the community advisory committee and applications that are due on october 1 and anyone interested should check the web site, or call 522-4800. on the transportation plan. we are actively working on the sustainability efforts strategy, thursday we will be hosting a leadership roundtable with participation from several members of this board looking at the big issues that are coming up related to gre
