we called caltrans down, who came out with a crew. they are going to try to snake the drain to open it. we have the storm coming here, the commute will pick up in the next hour or so. so right now traffic is still flowing smooth, but we are trying to get this cleared before the heavy traffic starts at least before the storm comes. right now probably looking at least an hour or two before they open the road depending what they find in the drain. >> reporter: you said earlier there were several spinouts with all this flooded road? >> yes. probably six inches deep and probably 30, 40 feet wide into the one and two lanes. we had calls of spinouts. fortunately there were no accidents. when we got here, all the traffic was -- all the vehicles were gone but we did find the road flooded. that's when we decided to bring in traffic break to slow traffic down and then we just blocked the number one and two lanes so we could get chp to put cones and signs. >> reporter: sergeant, thank you so much for joining us. >> you're welcome, thank you. >> r

we have seen caltrans with their plows going up and down, back and forth, on highway 17.hich is behind you right here in the santa cruz mountains. they are pushing off any rock or debris that could be pushing out into traffic. you can see they have this front-end loader on standby in case they need it for a much bigger job. you know, a mudslide, for instance. we have only seen one instance in which that might have been needed but workers already cleared that up. we have take an look at pictures here that we shot. you can see what happens when the ground becomes saturated. a very large tree cut this house in two in scott's valley. even though the owner was inside the kitchen at the time, remarkably, he was not hurt. this incidentally is not far from the other rock slide that shut down a road earlier this week cutting off vehicle access, isolating several other people who were stuck on the other side of the rock slide. some other pictures, this is from felton, not far from where we are at, the san lorenzo river was starting to jor flow, so yesterday afternoon san tra santa
