caltrans has shut down traffic between pleasant valley road, west of winters and markley cove. and nearby in lake county, the pawnee fire is now 80% contained. that's up just slightly over the last 24 hours. cal fire says about 50 structures are still in danger. more than 2,000 firefighters from around the state are battling the pawnee and county fires. >>> and i just got the latest on fiar drying up and warming up. let's get right to it. the pawnee fire conditions, taking a look at those wind gusts, 22 miles per hour. that, of course, is not the ideal conditions firefighters need. but it looks like they are getting a decent amount of containment on that. humidity down to 26%. now for the county fire. winds are also kind of breezy all around this area. north of lake berryessa. 87 degrees. 21% humidity. the smoke is out there. it's in the skies. moving mainly towards the central valley in the sierra foothills. but we're also starting to see a little bit of that haze across most of the bay area.

this is a short highway that is on the caltrans restriction though it's a city street. this is the site of the crash. the monday after the fatality happened, an uncontrolled crosswalk, marked, but not having anything in terms of requiring vehicles to stop. so the plan right now at this intersection thanks to a caltrans project is to have a beacon to require the vehicles to stop and this will be done on the rest of the corridor here. there's a number of other locations that are uncontrolled. in that project it was on design when this fatality happened, unfortunately, but it will soon be under construction. and here's the actual diagram of the infrastructure that will be added to this corridor. and another fatality was at ocean and victoria and on chester and santam. vulnerable population and bicyclers and a petty cabdrivers, unfortunately, was killed by a motorist that was traveling in the area. for ocean avenue, sometimes just looking at one intersection in isolation is not the right approach so what our staff did at m.t.a. in the case of ocean avenue is that because of

caltrans has road work in the eastbound direction. they had some in the westbound direction but that's wrapped up. eastbound lanes, you can see they are moving fine but they will have a few shut down until about 11:00 a.m. meantime, we are tracking travel times through the stretch. you can see this portion of 580, very slow from those connecting out of modesto. 43 minutes from i-5 over to 580, then the ride is slow, dropping below 20 miles an hour. things will start to pick up but you're in the yellow, 28 minutes on towards the dublin interchange. bay bridge toll plaza is looking okay, in the green, no metering lights just yet. a few cars backing up but nothing to write home about, 11 minutes heading into san francisco. neda? >>> nice to see the clear skies on the traffic cameras. we are also noticing on the cameras here, this is a look across san francisco, and the bright orange glow in the distance just a fine that we have no clouds out there this morning. this is a view of the golden gate bridge, a little west wind coming through.

it occurred despite caltrans installing a hawk beacon safety system. it's supposed to protect pedestrians and because it's new, it can be confusing. >> people didn't get it, what am i supposed to do? it's flashing yellow. is it flashing red? >> reporter: the supervisor says people need to understand how it works. another supervisor, katy tang, posted on her facebook page she wants pedestrians and drivers to become more familiar with the hawk beacon. the pedestrian activates the button that someone wants to walk and then it starts flashing and the signal turns solid ride. drivers must stop. while most did, a few impatient ones drove off while it was red. and we saw some, the children in this case, crossing without using the hawk system. once they are crossing, it goes to flashing red meaning they can proceed with caution. drivers didn't know what to do. because it's technically state highway 35, it's maintained by caltrans. the agency says the hawk crossing system works. >> they've actually been very effective. they're new so we're trying to get the wor
