(grant) that crash involved a caltrans vehicle on 101 just south of brokaw road in san jose. all four southbound lanes were shutdown just after 10:30 this morning following a collision between a collision between a white dodge pickup and a much larger caltrans truck. the chp says it's initial investigation has concluded that the caltrans vehicle, known as a "shadow truck," was trailing a sweeping crew... when the pickup slammed into the rear of the truck, killing the driver of the pickup. the caltrans truck was traveling very slowly in the far left lane and had a flashing sign known as an "arrow board" on top directing traffic to move to the right. officer ross lee/chp "....we estimate that the pickup was traveling about 65-70 miles per hour and for some unknown reason it just slammed into the attenuator cushion portion of the caltrans vehicle. the left front portion of the pickup snagged the right rear of the attenuator cushion and caused the pickup to swerve into the steel bed frame of the truck..."(grant) the driver of the caltrans truck was taken to a hospital but was not
