caltrans will close doyle drive in both directions.s will be starting at marina and lombard street so it can take it out. the bridge itself on highway 1 will remain open, but again, without doyle drive, there just isn't enough road surface streets area to handle the normal flow of cars. so expect traffic jams. this 57-hour marathon of nonstop construction will involve up to 300 workers and 40 excavators, some of which we've seen set up along doyle drive already this morning. this 1/2 mile stretch of elevated roadway needs to come down because it's old, it's been around 76 years. and in its place will be a partially tunnelled roadway. at the $1.1 billion project not expected to be completed until 2016. so come monday morning on the commute to doyle drive, that elevated roadway will be gone and in its place will be a temporary bypass. so if you're thinking, boy, i've got to get in the city this weekend to enjoy this nice weather to see the giants play at at&t park, what do i do? we know the golden gate ferries will be doubling service. a
