caltrans is worried about gridlock. traffic and expected to move well monday when motorists will drive on a detour in place until the project is finished in about three years. this animation shows what the level detour will look like. caltrans says this weekend chrissy field will not be as hospitalable as normal with noise and dust but no one knows for sure what to expect in terms of traffic during this closure. and are most worried about north bay residents and tourists. >> there are three trials now so that is our north bay audience that is used to coming to golden gate bridge. there is a huge factor we're handing out ear plugs thchl is a national park saying it's not going to be a park-like setting. it's going to be the loudest national park we have known. you're looking at old, brittle concrete. they can only do it by chipping and hammering so it's going to be loud. >> at 8:00 caltrans and chp will close doyle drive and will do two sweeps to make sure every car is gone. and then, equipment will be let loose. caltran

caltrans will close doyle drive in both directions.s will be starting at marina and lombard street so it can take it out. the bridge itself on highway 1 will remain open, but again, without doyle drive, there just isn't enough road surface streets area to handle the normal flow of cars. so expect traffic jams. this 57-hour marathon of nonstop construction will involve up to 300 workers and 40 excavators, some of which we've seen set up along doyle drive already this morning. this 1/2 mile stretch of elevated roadway needs to come down because it's old, it's been around 76 years. and in its place will be a partially tunnelled roadway. at the $1.1 billion project not expected to be completed until 2016. so come monday morning on the commute to doyle drive, that elevated roadway will be gone and in its place will be a temporary bypass. so if you're thinking, boy, i've got to get in the city this weekend to enjoy this nice weather to see the giants play at at&t park, what do i do? we know the golden gate ferries will be doubling service. a
