and caltrans is working on a fix. kron four went out to marin county today. to figure out what kind of damage the water did to the roadway. for now, caltrans is considering a short-term solution to keep it from flooding agin. one option being considered... raising the level of the roadway with some concrete and paving over it. a dangerous situation for parts of sacramento county... where crews are working around the clock to repair a very unstable levee. we've seen the result of the broken dam in oroville... and officials are trying to avoid that situation at tyler island. this area is just north of highway-12 in southern sacramento. officials say the levee gave way on monday morning... and water hasn't come through the other side yet... but residents in tyler island and walnut grove...and also hundreds of acres of farmland...are in danger of mass flooding. officials are not clear exactly what has caused the levee break and are investigating... but say that the recent wet weather hasn't helped. for those residents living in the waters pathway... evacuations a

caltrans workers expected back out here at 8:00 this morning. we just spoke with chp.s no official eta when they will open. the officer was saying it could be later today. not until tomorrow. a manipulate of mud, rock, debris spilled onto both lanes of northbound 17 in scotts valley between sugarloaf and vine hill road. it caused a vehicle to over. that driver is okay. workers must be careful, however, not to remove too much from the bottom. otherwise, the material on the top can come sliding down. that's why caltrans has ordered a special piece of equipment called the spider, which will be able to move debris at the top of the slide. >> it is a separate arm that can kind of hold out and you can claim up with the spider. >> it is horrifying. we had a bus full of kids come by two hours before this landslide. it could have been all our children coming through there. >> once the spider arrives, they will be able to finish removing that mudslide and reopen northbound highway 17. incidentally the location of this mudslide is the same location that a mudslide across the tv n

caltrans says it had a busy day yesterday clearing mudslides along the road in fremont fremont. this was one of several slides crews had to remove. this area has closed several times over the winter due to debris falling onto the roadway. pittsburg police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead. it happened late last night on atlantic avenue. police say when they got to the scene, the victim had already died. the victim has been identified as 20 year old joseph west of antioch. this morning pittsburg police are still looking for his killer. a c-h-p officer has died after crashing into a pole during a police chase in south sacramento. lucas chellew was on duty last night when he started chasing a suspect. that chase ended when the officer crashing his motorcycle into a pole. chellew was airlifted to the hospital where he died. the 31 year-old had been a c-h-p officer for the past eight years. governor brown releasing a statement saying in part: "officer chellew's great courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten." as with all the protect. officer chellew'

caltrans has not given an estimate to when that road will re-open. highway 37 usually carries forty one thousand vehicles a day in the east bay... palomares road near niles canyon is closed this morning in alameda county. that's because a 700 pound boulder could come crashing down at any moment. this is a popular road for commuters traveling from alameda county to contra costa county. several rocks have already fallen and caused damage to the road. crews are hoping to have the boulder removed sometime today. county officials say they are trying to have at least one lane open by this afternoon. this weekend's rain raising concerns in the south bay where the anderson reservoir is almost at capacity already. we first told you about this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. anderson lake is already at more than 99-percent capacity and for the first time in decades water is expected to to start flowing over the reservoirs spillway and that could lead to flooding down stream in coyote creek. water officials say low lying areas in morgan hill along c
