they had caltrans crews out trying to clear the scene. they had vehicles stopped.to stop all eastbound traffic because of that initial accident investigation and chp officers were on scene. while they were on scene for that accident investigation, they say that a red cadillac began coming toward them, again eastbound on the bay bridge. as the cadillac came toward them, officers told the vehicle to stop. it was driving on the shoulder. the officers from chp say they gave repeated commands to stop. it's unclear at this time. we have heard reports that the vehicle started to speed up or continued on. as it continued to the officers, one of the officers, at least one officer, opened fire striking the driver at least one time. it's unclear on how many times that driver was hit. we have heard that the driver of that red cadillac was pulled from the vehicle and sent to highland hospital. unclear what condition that driver is at this time. we heard there were some other occupants inside the red cadillac, three other people inside. chp investigators say they are talking to

( steve ) early june is when the camping season in the high sierra is well underway. but despite the warmer temperatures we've been seeing, it's been a slow start for would-be campers..( catherine ) lonnie wong tells us that campsites in many cases - are still deing with the effects of the record- breaking winter. campers in the crystal basin rec area of the eldorado national forest didn't have to worry about crowds today. there wasn't enough warm and sunny days in many of the higher campgrounds in the sierras.wright's lake rec area won't be open for another month. one of those places is popular loon lake campground which is two weeks behind after it got hit hard this winter. rockslides on ice house road and trees knocked over by the weight of the snow make getting there a challenge. while most of the snow is melting fast, trees fell over damaging picnic benches.

caltrans says 50 tons of debris from the hillside slid down onto the road.d in the west bound lane before creeping into eastbound traffic. crews are cleaning boulrs and mud. jarrett woodruff with caltrans says it was water from storms this winter that got in between boulders, causing the mudslide. caltrans knows where the hot spots are in the morning, the bottlenecks. is this where you get stuck if you're driving through the peninsula? the worst morning jams are in red. the evening jams are in blue. you can see there's plenty of it on the map. tonight, folks who live and work in san mateo county in northern santa clara county will have a chance to hear about the plan to ease the troubled from caltrans and the county of san mateo. are four proposals on the table at this point. one would create a toll lane, an express laen like the one that folks in livermore have on 580. that would include a toll for solo drivers as well. another option would be to extend the carpool lane from sfo down to the north of santa clara county line. now, increasing the carpool also to three or more people. if you're thinking i just got an electric car to bypass all this traffic and now i have to pay a toll, if it goes into effect, clean air vehicles, carpools, motorcycles, commuter buses would be exempt with the fast track flex in. the meeting at 6:30 at the redwood county
