caltrans says 50 tons of debris from the hillside slid onto the road.estbound lane before creeping into eastbound traffic. crews spent much of the evening cleaning boulders and mud, closing the highway for five miles. now crews are working on reverse traffic control. caltrans says water from storms this winter got in between boulders, causing the mudslide. they hope to have both lanes back open by this afternoon.
