and we're addressing each one of those one by one with caltrans next week to close out. in combination between those with me because this is a designer element that they need to close it out. so that's where we've got them on board and i have been talking with both within the last day or two to ensure that we can close those out next week. >> supervisor harper: i know how caltrans can be with its standards. so what happens if it says that it's not going to just close out these concerns but, i mean, can caltrans really say that we can't get on the bridge? >> each one of the items that we're speaking to will have a mitigation to fix it, you know, and a recommendation. i mean, all of the recommendations for every one of those seven are not necessary, do nothing -- it's usually something that is a cross slope as a good example. a cross slope is supposed to be 2% and it's like 2.01% and you need a design exception. those are the level of tolerances that we're talking about with each one of these design exceptions. and with those it's -- working with caltrans right now it's mo

that's one of the reasons why chp and caltrans were out, making sure that nobody was driving through the area without snow chains or four wheel drive and snow tires. this storm is expected to draw a lot of fans to the mountains up here. the chp is advising drivers it would be better if they can avoid coming up during the storm. drivers need to be ready for whatever conditions they might meet on the roads. >> if you're coming up. carry the chains, make sure you know how to put your chains on before you get up here. and once you get the chains on, 30-mile-per-hour speed limit is the limit. most of the accidents are because people are going too fast. >> drivers and chain installers say that's good advice. >> a lot of times it's worth paying these guys to help you out. >> the key to traveling in the mountains is make sure to have chains and make sure they are the right size and make sure you have a full tank of gas. bring some water and a blanket or two in case the road closes and bring your patience. you'll need all of those. >>> the snow is coming down heavily. and the forecast calls f

caltrans keeping busy with this nice weather. they have all lanes shut down along highway 13 in that northbound direction. this is right at moraga avenue. that have you been wrapped up by 5 a.m. with a detour in place. 580 at grand-lakeshore, a connector ramp closed westbound 580 to eastbound 24 due to an earlier crash. looks like chp is on the scene and they are still waiting for a tow. your travel times continue to show green. but we are seeing a lot of backup along 980. we had an earlier crash at 880 and 7th. that's not slowing anyone down. bay bridge toll plaza, nice and light. hat's a check of your traffic; over to you. >>> this morning, investigators are trying to piece together what led up to a deadly crash on the mendocino county coast that killed a family. they were driving on highway 1 when their suv plunged off a cliff. the vehicle was found monday. the parents and three children were killed in the crash. three other children are still missing and presumed dead. the alameda county sheriff's office drone is helping the
