it looks like caltrans is confident this temporary fix will hold for now. here is some footage from the drama yesterday. it began at 11 am when chunks of concrete help from the upper deck onto the lower deck damaging at least one car in the morning. caltrans shut down all but one lane of traffic while they looked into the problem, and by the afternoon more chunks of concrete started falling so they shut down the bridge completely through the evening commute. it was a brutal drive home even by the bay area standards. they were trying to drive to the north with highway 30 seven or to the south on the bay bridge sitting in traffic for hours. they have a temporary player -- repair with the metal plates and 8 pm all the lanes were back open. >> the metal plates are a short- term repair and over the weekend we will assess this more to figure out the long- term plan for the long-term fixes for the bridge. >> reporter: caltrans is put in an emergency order to get a contractor here very quickly over the weekend for a permanent fix. again, all lanes are back open on
