she was trapped in her vehicle at the bottom of an embankment for more than seven hours, caltrans says to snowplow operators saw the tire drags and then spotted the vehicle. rescuers pulled the woman and three of her four dogs to safety . caltrans maintenance worker returned to the site the next day, where he scrambled to the bottom of the embankment. and rescued that fourth dog. investigators believe smoking materials in a first floor bedroom started a deadly fire at a walnut creek town home. ktvu is tom baker has more on what officials say contributed to the rapid spread of flames. two people were killed and wanted creek in a fire at the country would town homes close to heather farms? well my husband heard a boom. and then my daughter started yelling fire, and then the flames were coming around to her bedroom window. as many as 40. firefighters fought this intense blaze. the fire is believed to have started on the first floor but quickly spread to the upper floor and other homes because officials say one side of the condo wall had no attic firewall. all the rooms in this building we

caltrans all over twitter yesterday saying slow down, slow down. slow down. they could get a little bit more as we go forward and they could get a lot more as we go into early next week. just a heads up, but rainfall was pretty good. in fact, right in line with the projection there was more south of san francisco, the north. remember we showed you that well, that's exactly what happened. for many. i mean, santa rosa napa had less than half moon bay san jose outfront about that in the city as well. so that was some pretty good rainfall about a quarter of an inch to a third for some lots upstream. once we get a little afternoon heating here will start to pop up some showers. scattered showers could get 1/10 of an inch. maybe a little hail reported with some of these as we go forward. our system from yesterday is now down into central and southern california kind of washing out a little bit, but it's still there. tremendous amount of cold air is coming down 38 in sonoma mountain. mount diablo is missing. well, it's not missing, but the data is missing. ben lomon

so you can clearly see caltrans on the scene right now. and there's so much debris and a lot of fluids when on the roadways so they don't want another accident with a car going through the oil slick and then spinning out as far as that cab. look at this. we know what it did to the trailer. it was on its side. here's the cab. this portion here. was the once traveling the center median and it just ripped the tires. you can see the mirrors this part here was straddling the center median and it's still leaking at this time. so it looks like it's going to be quite some time before they clear this and get it out of the way. but is just carnage as far as the cab is concerned, they're ready to pitch it as we speak right now. and then again, the update is they were talking about noon that according to the chp is if the trailer just ripped apart. but since it did not, they're looking at around 10 o'clock to be out of here and get traffic flowing once again. >> back great. that same a zing that that driver is okay. yeah. thank you. we'll all right. l

at one point yesterday morning part of highway 84 was covered in water after caltrans said some pumpsff for some still unknown reason. we're all trying to find these areas and identify them prior to something happening, but again, we are going from call to call to call to call when we get ponding on freeways. a lot of times, it's because the drainage has been clogged and we need to send a maintenance team out there to unclog the drain. and while it's been mostly dry commute, there is more rain to come in the days ahead, caltrans and chp reminding us all not to drive through flooded roads are standing water because a car can easily stall out or you could hit a curve or other obstacles hidden by the water is still coming down in the sierra after a snowy election day, interstate 80 and highway 50 have had chain controls all night. and 80 was even close for a time that's not made it tougher for both voters and communities nearly tahoe to turn in their ballots, as well as election officials, who had to get those ballots down the hill to headquarters were ballots are counted. but voters we
