electrification. and it is now in a holding pattern. waiting for a lot of money from president trump. caltrans executive director has a team in washington, d.c. today trying to persuade officials from the department of transportation. we are talking about a massive cal train project to commute the commuter train system from diesel fuel to electric power. before construction can start, cal train needs a commitment of almost $650 million from the feds. the secretary of transportation delayed that grant decision until president trump releases his budget recommendations to congress later this spring. in the meantime, the trump administration announced they intend to prioritize money for projects that can begin within 90 days. and caltrans says it can. >> this is as shovel ready as it gets. so if the administration is interested in moving forward with plans to improve the economic competitiveness of our nation, and create jobs, around the country, this project fits that bill. >> in order to keep this project on track and to start it asap, cal train is paying contractors $20 million just to stand by
