oxford or cambridge? this is a dispute that the oldest british educational institutions have been trying to resolve for many centuries. the two renowned universities have traditionally competed. prestige, research grants and even political influence, but the most fundamental rivalry between oxford and cambridge is, of course, sports. both university towns are located on the banks of the river, and it is not surprising that students have long practiced rowing. about two centuries ago, in 1829, cambridge challenged its eternal rival. two teams of eight rowers competed for the first time on the waters of the thames, then oxford won, but the loser, of course, asked for revenge, as a result this regatta became traditional. the format of the competition remains unchanged, the distance is just under 7 km, from start to finish, rowers need to make approximately 600 oar strokes. one one of the key factors is the ability of the eight to quickly adapt to the weather; in foggy albion, as you know, it changes rapidly.
