three fires are at camp pendleton right now. we're told more than a thousand people have had to evacuate the base. this is on top of evakses -- vak situations from yesterday on the base. this is just one of a number of fires that have broken out in this region in just the past couple of days. more than 11,000 people are still evacuated due to the saint marcos fire and that fire there's 1,000 firefighters on the front lines right now. over the past three days, they tell us they have end, countered some of the strongest winds that they have ever seen. gusts up to 100 miles per hour. it's only 10% contained and local authorities say this area is far from safe. >> day four is a much better day than the preceding days we've seen but the difficult days for san diego are not over. >> reporter: that's in large part due to the extreme drought conditions that we have plus the strong winds that we've had over the past couple of days. today, the conditions were calmer and firefighters hope they will get calm conditions tomorrow and sunday a
