the poppy is the official symbol of remembrance not only in our country, great britain, canada, australiaichael with the american legion made it the national symbol of remembrance. ainsley: how did this all come to be? why did you decide to do this wall. >> every year usaa has internal lay ceremony both at memorial day and veterans day. we created the wall. it was such a hit. we brought it to the new orleans, the veterans mall. brian filmed it and interviewed people about it. it got legs of its own and next it was on the mall last year and so well received. people were inspired we just had to bring it back this year. steve: 640,000 poppies? >> over 645,000 poppies. steve: how do you do that? >> great support from the american legion and the vfw, making those poppies and displaying them and it represents every american man and woman lost in service to the country defending our freedom since world war i. ainsley: you fought in the navy 35 years retired now you work for usaa. what does the flag, what does memorial day, we are approaching july 4th. what does it all mean to you. >> thank you.
