i'm candice nguyen, nbc bay area news. thank you candice. things are getting back to normal near zuckerberg san francisco general after a natural gas leak triggered a major evacuation earlier today. it started just before 10:00 this morning. the fire department says a construction crew accidentally hit a gas line at 24 and new hampshire streets just a couple blocks away from the hospital. roads were closed and businesses and residents from at least four apartment complexes had to leave the area as pg&e crews capped the leak and made repairs. the tesla driver, who slammed into an apartment building and sparked a fire has died. we first reported this last night at 11. it happened on old springs boulevard in fremont. firefighters say the driver ran right into the first floor of an apartment building, and then his car caught on fire. the first floor was vacant, but people who live in the upper floors were forced to evacuate. firefighters say the driver was a 46 year old man from fremont. we spoke with a woman who saw the crash and then he just s

and candice, fill us in on some of those complaints there. so how often are they being refused for those rides? yeah, we spoke to a san jose teacher, and over the summer she sent me videos showing she was refused almost on a weekly basis. and she relies on a guide dog to get to and from work safely. i watched all these videos. they range anywhere from the driver saying, look, i just don't want a dog in my car, which is illegal. if the animal is indeed a guide dog to them. seeing the guide dog and driving away before even stopping the car. and quite a number of the videos show the drivers even argue with the blind individual saying, hey, you should have signed up for uber pet. but there are two main issues with that. we found these guide dogs are not pets. they are as necessary, as essential as a wheelchair, as crutches. and these pet features. it's like you guys, if we brought our dogs on and it's a pet, you usually comes with a $510 extra fee. well, that's an extra fee that would be discriminating financially. so that's also not a solution.

overnight investigative reporter candice nguyen joins us now.his summer, candice broke two stories that brought out a lot of scrutiny to the superintendent. big news today. yeah. big news. laura. this news comes as a surprise to many staff members across the county, as well as parents of students. the county office of education tells me it will be business as usual at all locations throughout today. but it was late last night at a board meeting. board members voted to terminate superintendent mary ann duggan, who you're looking at right here without cause. they say they have placed her on paid administrative leave for 30 days, and that's effective immediately. so that motion was passed with three yeses, two no's and laura, one board member abstaining from voting. and so without cause, we really don't know why they took this action yet. no, we don't know why. i've reached out to every board member to ask why the board is not specifying. however, a source close to the board says the reasons behind these actions. they do involve some of the concern
