candice nguyen, nbc bay area. we investigate. thank you. candice. one person is dead after a fire broke out in an oakland warehouse this morning. we want to show you video from nbc bay area. sky ranger taken of the scene. the two alarm fire broke out around six this morning on russet street. more than 40 firefighters battled the flames and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings. crews did put it out within an hour, but during the search of the building, firefighters found one person dead. the cause of this fire remains under investigation. well, are there bad chemicals in our water supply? santa clara county is suing more than a dozen companies for exposing people to so-called toxic forever chemicals. lawyers claim the companies have sparked an environmental and health crisis. here's nbc's ian cull. santa clara county joins a growing list of groups suing the makers of pfos, highly toxic environmental contaminants it says are circulating in county water supplies. they're known as forever chemicals because they don't degrade. they're found in

investigative reporter candice nguyen is with us.f all, let's just start with how many immigrants here in the bay area? i'm one of them, by the way. and how many are undocumented? yeah, i spent the day looking at studies, talking to different research groups. more than 30% of the bay area population is made up of immigrants, meaning people who were not originally born in the u.s. and the migration policy institute tells me they estimate about 471,000 of those people are undocumented as of 2022. you can see the breakdown here in the bay area. and then when you look at just santa clara county alone, that number actually increases a great deal. so 40% of the population in santa clara county are immigrants. yeah. that's big. so just to be clear, 470 undocumented. what was the overall immigration population of immigrants? about 30% of the bay area total is immigrants. and about a half a million are undocumented, is what you're saying? those are big numbers. big numbers. how does this compare to the bay area compared with other parts of th

i'm candice nguyen. there is a battle brewing in the bay area over artificial turf at schools, parks, and playgrounds. it's about whether the plastic fields might be dangerous to your kids health. now, the fight also includes allegations of mismanagement of a high school's old turf. concerned parents found huge rolls of it just left in an empty field during her sophomore year at saratoga high school, nicole lee was studying for finals when suddenly her mind went from her books to the field. my school announced that they were going to replace the artificial turf on our fields with new artificial turf. but after diving into emerging research, she became worried the turf might actually be dangerous to the environment and possibly her as well. i was part of my school color guard. the individual blades would get stuck like all over my clothes, so obviously it was going down drains and polluting waterways. after finding out more about the chemicals and pfas that are contained in the turf, then i got a lot more
