primarily spanish thus speaking or mandarin and cantonese- speaking. we also translated lot of our information. part of our website assigned janice -- trainees or spanish. we have letters the got to taxpayers in spanish and chinese. and we can also use that phone to help with immediate, on the spot translations. supervisor kim: i saw that. you think what you have existing on staff meets the needs of your office? >> one challenging thing is, you know, stuff are sometimes reticent about not reticent to help, but they do not necessarily get compensated for it. we have been encouraging more staff to get certified to the civil services system. it is also quite onerous. because once certified, they are required to spend a certain hours per week to provide those services. now, we do not necessarily feel like we have to set aside those hours. we really want them to be available if customers come on board, especially for the appraisers who this is their job to be working the front counter. it would be great for us to be a work more closely with dhr's on a more

we are able to provide our services, follow-up questions in english, spanish, cantonese, and mandarin. and then -- and then, roger, you will -- >> yes. i am an attorney in private practice. the laws in this area are strict compliance laws, and they are very specific. the federal law since 1990 indicates issues from 1998. all businesses, such as a grocery store, a dentist's office, restaurants, a doctor's office, virtually anything that a member of the public comes into the -- comes into needs to be a barrier-free. we will go over what barriers are. every public accommodation needs to be wheelchair-accessible. there are also other other forf disability. most of the issues we are hearing about are wheelchair accessibility issues. there is a small group of private individuals who are wheelchair-down that go around the city and they look at small businesses. and i dare say anybody in small restaurants have some accessibility issues. it is another attempt at making your building wheelchair accessible. i am not sure which of you may be merchants and which it may be landlords. the law applie

employees with 14 bilingual staff in contact position to speak spanish and chinese, both manned and cantonese. our largest direct service is the office of work-force development. office of small business has a total number of clients with limited english proficiency -- proficiency -- the total number of clients is 2014 and 266 are clients of limited english proficiency. we think that number does not accurately represent a small businesses out there with owners with limited english proficiency and we think the jobs proposal will help us reach those businesses much more effectively. i will get into that program later in my presentation. with regard to the work force, they have served 2709 individuals as of april 30. 657 are of limited english proficiency, about 24%. with regard to work force, the budget is projected to grow in fiscal year 2012-2013. that is largely due to federal grants. there are three department of labor grant initiatives we are currently working on. one is a technical training grant, a disability program and an enhanced job demonstration project. this together total about $1
